James Soyars, Jr., born circa 1798, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, married Elizabeth Fowlkes, 3 October 1820, Pitts. Co. Marriage Book 1, Pg.71, bondsman was Anderson Fowlkes. James Soyars, Jr. was s/o James Soyars, b. circa 1760 in France, d. 30 October 1838, Pitts. Co., Va. and Jane Oakes, b. 8 October 1770, Halifax Co., Va., died 25 Nov. 1858, Pittsylvania Co., Va. (Her will is in Halifax County) they were married in Pitts. Co., Va. 16 December 1793 (Marriage Book 1, page 17) James is said to be s/o John Soyars, according to the History of Christian County, Kentucky, which I have not seen. He was wounded in the revolution, sereved as high sherriff of Pittsylvnia Co., Sgt At Arms of the Virginia Senate and is supposed to have been on a committee to welcome LaFayette on his tour of America in 1824. Jane was d/o Isaac Oakes (b. circa 1741 King William Co., Va d. May-June 1807, Halifax Co., Va., WB 7, Page 318) and his first wife, Rachel Crane.
