And, in the 1860 census Patrick Co VA, Southern Dist, Fam #190: John Slaughter 25, Mahala 26, both born VA, no children listed. In the 1870 census PCVA Dan River fam 442, Mahala Slaughter age 39, head of household; John W. Slaughter, absent; Juliney Slaughter (Bowman?) 6; Purvis Slaughter 3; Lucinda S. Bowman 28; Mahala M.
