The age given at a marriage is not always correct.....For example, my grandmother married my grandfather in 1898 when she was 27 yrs. old and he was 18. Their marriage certificate gives her age as 22...Evidently that sounded better than the nine year difference would have, especially since he was so young. The death notice list the place of birth for John Slaughter as Floyd Co. Does anyone have access to the marriage records of Floyd as he may have married Mahala Bowman there instead of PCVA? bnc
