Hi, I am a new subscriber to this list, and have already seen innumerable references to a book entitled, "Tombstone Inscriptions of the Cemeteries of Patrick County Virginia" by O. E. Pilson. Is this book readily available in bookstores? If not, whom is the publisher, and where might I find it? Also, what is the price? I would like to find a copy. I am looking for information on my surname, Collins. I know that my father, grandfather, and great grandfather were all born in Patrick Co. My grandfather's name was William Blaine Collins. He married Lilly Smith, and when my father was about 4 years old, they moved to High Point, NC. Blaine was the son of William Thomas Collins (1/19/1862 - 6/28/1934). William Thomas Collins married Savannah Texas Martin (7/7/1866 - 3/17/1928) and had one son and nine daughters. We don't know the daughters names or dates. William Thomas had a brother named Jim, but we don't know anything definite about Jim. We believe he had several children, but don't know his wife's name, dates, or the sexes or names of his children. In the 1860 census I found to James Collins in Patrick Co. at the Arrarat Post Office. Could one of these be Jim? William Thomas' and Jim's father was Jack Collins, and it is believed he was born either in Patrick Co. or Henry Co. His wife and other children are also unknown. My father said there are no dates on Jack's tombstone. Can anyone help fill in any information? In the interim until I am able to procure a copy of Mr. Pilson's book, can anyone supply any information from his book about any of these people? Someone told me that Stokes and Surry Counties, NC are just across the border from Patrick Co. and that there is a lot of Collins history there, and it is believed that there was movement back and forth by Collinses. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't been able to check a map or verify any of that information. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks for your time and consideration.
