Yes, I have that Thomas was born in Patrick County, all the census' records list him as born in VA. Richard left him with his Burnett grandparents and went to Tennessee to locate an uncle or someone there to start over. On 5 August 1984 I visited Mrs. Viola Hokins Carrier in the Hickory Tree community near Bluff City, Sullivan County, Tennessee. She was in her early eighties then and told me where to find the bruial ground of Richard Hopkins, just down the road. It was marked with plain stones. Mrs. Carrier indicated the ownership of the cemetary had been disputed for some time. She also showed me a printed history of the family there that stated Richard camped one night at Low Gap, on Holston Moutain while a group of me hunting. They told him of a big buck they had tracted for years and the next morning when he set out he encountered said buck and killed him. Based on that the ledgend goes, he decided to settle there and once he became established he went back for his son, Thomas, and married his sister in law while there. There were 9 children born to that marriage, I think I know where to find the names. Mary Webb has been a dead end for me as well. I understand that in the 1820 or 30 census of Sullivan County, TN Richard Hopkins was enumerated betwixt two Webb households, one has to be Mary's family. I hope to get back out there this summer and see what I can find. I posted a quiry to the East Tennessee list and got one responce from another dead end Webb hunter who said his family was Cherokee, which could be a significant roadblock I understand. I was told about Richard being the son of an earlier Richard from a Hopkins from Kentucky who I met at the Bassett Library 20 years ago when I was starting this and didn't have presence of mind to prusue it like I should have. I think his name was Larry Hopkins, I'm not even sure.
