I have made friends with the property owners at Woods Gap and told them of my interest in leading a pilgrimage to the graves of Richard "Dickey" Wood and his four wives in the spring (before the snakes come out). Hello all: As a child, while visiting my several great-aunts in Patrick and Henry Counties, I was told the story of how my cousin, John Taylor Campbell, son of Walter And Florence Campbell died. Going on memory alone, the story was that he was in the military(probably 1940's) and had come home on leave to marry his local sweetheart. On their wedding day as they drove out of town for their honeymoon trip, their convertible car ran underneath a big truck. They were both killed instantly (decapitated). I find John Taylor Campbell in the 1930 census at age 8; so I suppose this incident occured iin the 1940's or 50's. Would anyone remember this or have access to any newpaper clipping?
