I know what you mean, those RAKESes were all over that area, as were the WOODs. I ask because my mother was born on the second farm away from theres along Shooting Creek, and my mother knew them. Samuel Jackson RAKES, Jr., Company D, 51st Virginia Infantry, CSA, died of smallpox at Emory (Washington CoVA) in April 1864, according to his widow's pension application. Ruth Ann THOMAS m. Samuel, Jr., 18 Dec 1852. I think I am related to Ruth as well as Samuel, and I'm just trying to find out who here parents were and what the names of all their children were. They had at least eight, and I only know of Sarah, whose name I got from a census record. Henry's full name was Henry Bland WOOD, if that helps.
