Rev. James R. Foster PAGE -- The Rev. James R. Foster, 81, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill. Born March 31, 1923, in Patrick, Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Ruth Castle Foster. Mr. Foster was a retired coal miner for Foster Coal Co. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Lee Foster and Jackie Lee Foster; three brothers, Melvin Foster, Robert Lee Foster and Claude Otis Foster; a sister, Ollie Mae Landers; and a grandson, James Jerry "J.J." Foster Jr. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Kathryn Settle Foster; a son, James Jerry Foster Sr. and wife, Joyce, of Kincaid; daughter, Thelma Jean Frazier of Page; three brothers, Ernest Raymond Foster of Beckley, Jesse Leonard Foster of Oak Hill and Frank Dewey Foster of Rock Lick; a sister, Margaret Ruth Bragg of Whipple; four grandchildren, J.R., Jackie Wayne, Ricky and Eddie Frazier; and three great-grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Emmitt Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Robertson Cemetery, Wriston.
