    3. So she may have lived in Franklin Co. - I found a possibility -- the only problem is it says Long Branch rather than Shooting Creek --- Name: Nervie E Rakes Home in 1900: Long Branch, Franklin, Virginia Age: 12 Estimated birth year: 1888 Birthplace: Virginia Race: White Relationship to head-of-house: Daughter Barb S. ---------- At 09:05 PM 3/7/2005 -0500, you wrote: >Barb, > >I found a trout stocking map and it appears that Shooting Creek starts in >the southwest corner of Franklin Co and then goes into Patrick Co to >eventually join the Smith River up above Philpott Reservoir. > ><http://www.dgif.state.va.us/fishing/TroutGuide/area_map_3.pdf>http://www. dgif.state.va.us/fishing/TroutGuide/area_map_3.pdf > >David > > > >==== VAPATRIC Mailing List ==== >Patrick Co., Va. 3. Barb, Found this which seems to indicate there was a Long Branch District with Shooting Creek in the area... THOMAS LEMON Tuesday, January 8, 1907 Richmond, Virginia, January 7 - The public school building at Shooting Creek, in the Long Branch School District of Franklin County, was burned to the ground Sunday night, January 6, 1907. A young white man was cremated in the building. He was sleeping in the school house and has not been seen or heard of since. The building was located in a wild and lawless district and threats had been made more than once to burn the building because of the teacher ISAAC LEMON, was unpopular. THOMAS LEMON was sleeping in the building as a guard. The school house at Ottar Creek, near Shooting Creek, was recently burned and not long ago, a barn of C.T. SNEAD, together with all his live stock, was burned in the neighborhood. There is no clue to the identity of the perpetrators of the outrage. David
