    2. Fulcher
    3. There is a great likihood that "Missouri" Fulcher did come from outside Patrick Co. She really doesn't appear anywhere in any record that we have been able to find, prior to being involved with Hardin and Philip Fulcher. While we do not have photos, the physical descriptions of Missouri's children we have gotten from other relatives indicates that all of them DID appear to be significantly Native American. Of course, as you have aptly pointed out, each succeeding generation is "diluted." My husband has so much English, Irish and Scottish in him, it would be hard to locate the Cherokee in any other way than a DNA test. It still is a matter of pride, though!!! The first is how much Indian ancestry it takes to make one look Indian. My test results indicated that I am about 10% Indian, but no one ever said I looked it. The test of my mother showed that all my Indian ancestry came from her, but she looked less Indian than my father, who had prominent cheekbones. My mother got all her Indian ancestry from her mother, who was from West Virginia. This brings up a second point: it is unlikely that anyone from Patrick County has a significant amount of Indian ancestry unless it is from an ancestor who lived outside the county. The reason is that all Indians were removed from the area more than eight generations ago. A final point raised by your message is that there is an advantage to having more than one descendant tested. The greater the number, the better will be the chances of proving the Indian ancestry. The reason is that although the number of Indian DNA markers is reduced by half per generation on average, just by chance some individuals will inherit a greater number of markers.
