The reason is that all Indians > were > removed from the area more than eight generations ago. Cleon, I have to differ with you about this!!! All of them were NOT removed from Patrick County, they simply melted into the background... denied their Indian heritage for practical reasons. DNA testing has proven that is exactly what my ancestors did although we, in the family, knew who we were. My g-g-grandmother Stone was full blood Cherokee, on the other side of the family, my g-g-g-grandfather, old Barnabas Baliles, who was French/Indian, married Susanna a full blood Cherokee. I am about 20% Native american. Descendants of both sides have been prominent in the history of Patrick County, but you won't find any mention of Indian in amy of their historys.
