For ages, I've been trying to track down the heritage of Madison P. Fulcher's mother, the illusive "Missouri" Fulcher. She was the mother of children by both Phillip AND Hardin Fulcher, of Patrick Co. I have long suspected that part of my difficulty in tracking her may have had to do with the possibility that she was Cherokee Indian. Several other decedents that I corresponded with also had heard the same story. Well, I am excited to say I have just had a note from yet another descendent and she has confirmed, without a doubt, that Missouri was, indeed, Cherokee Indian. This lady's grandfather was the grandson of Missouri and told this lady, when she was young, that his grandmother was definitely full blooded Cherokee Indian! This wasn't just a family "legend" in their case, but direct knowledge from someone who knew Missouri personally. This makes my hubby 1/32 Cherokee, which isn't alot, but we are so thrilled to finally have some confirmation on the story we have long believed! Just goes to prove you should never give up looking!
