After months of hard work, the Patrick County Heritage Book Volume II Committee and the Patrick County Genealogy Societys WWII Pictorial Book Committee submitted both books to Walsworth Publishing Company on Monday, August 8th. The Patrick County Heritage Book Volume II contains 1,493 stories including 447 military, 323 topical, and 723 family stories. This is 297 more stories than was in Volume I and is accompanied by more collage pages than Volume I. Subject matter includes Military, the Native Americans, CCC, Arts & Crafts, Celebration & Religion, Civic & Community Groups, Historic Homes, Making a Living, Music, Patrick County Places, Religious Life, Places of Education, and Sketches of Life. The Patrick County WWII Pictorial Book has over 600 Veteran Stories in addition to a Listing of the 2,000 Patrick County Veterans in WWII, Chapters of How Patrick County Was Involved in the War Efforts from 1939-1946 which includes Stuart Rotary Club, Stuart Book Club, Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Bond Sales, Rationing of Food, Scrap & Paper Drives, the Pulpwood Campaign, Blackouts, Canning, Victory Gardens, the Bull Mountain Plane Crash, a Hutchens B-24 Story, Honor Roll of the N&W Railway, Bougainville Island Base Reunion, and pictures from the WWII Memorial in Washington as well as the D-Day Memorial in Bedford. In addition, the book has hundreds of pictures from the war including ships, airplanes, tanks, country sides, V-Mails, Letters Back Home, Medals, etc. Now both books will enter the publication process with expected delivery at Christmas.
