    2. Yes, the DNA results indicate that William Harris and Samuel Harris were not closely related biologically. There are so many differences between the DNA of their descendants that one would probably have to go back to precolonial times to find the shared male ancestor. There is a possibility, however, that William and Samuel thought they were cousins. If the grandfather of one was illegitimate or adopted, for example, the DNA chain from father to son would have been broken. There is no documented evidence for that, however. It is striking that the families of William and Samuel don't seem to appear together in any document, even though they lived so close to each other. Someone has suggested to me that there was a family feud between them. I haven't researched Rev. Samuel Harris, but my impression is that he and his children stayed in Pittsylvania County. I can't tell whether any male-line descendants have been tested, but it should be easy and even fun to find out if you are familiar with names in the family. Just go to _http://www.harrisdna.org/new15.html_ (http://www.harrisdna.org/new15.html) and click on the number in the left column to see an abbreviated tree, or hover the cursor over the name of the oldest known male ancestor in the second column to see his data. By the way, Pat, thank you for all the documents you have transcribed and the other data you have provided. Much of what I know about Samuel Harris is thanks to you. Charles
