I am still trying to locate some of the descendants of the above John William Harris. This John William was son of Daniel Harris (s/o Samuel Harris and Elizabeth "Betsy" Hollandsworth Harris) and Nancy Purdy Trent Harris. In some records he is referred to as William Harris and in others John W(illiam) Harris. According to the PCVA marriage records, William Harris married Saluda Doss 24 Nov 1858. Son George Woodson Harris was b. 25 Jul 1861. Saluda died 15 Jul 1871 and John W. Harris married Sally Shelton in 1872. In the 1860 Census for PCVA, William and Saluda were living next door to her parents, Azariah and Mary Neal Doss. In the 1870 Census for Peters Creek, Stokes NC, William and Saluda were shown with sons George W. age 10, Joseph S. age 8 and William R. Harris age 4, all b. in VA. John William and Sally Shelton Harris had sons Daniel Jackson Harris, b. 23 Oct 1874, Peter L. Harris, b. 7 Sept 1876 and a son (not named) who lived only 1 month. Aug 1878 - Sep 1878. I checked the 1880 Census for PCVA and found John W., Harris, age 44; wife Sallie, 36; son Jack D. age 5; and son Peter L., age 3. They were living next door to my George Woodson and wife Allie, son of William and Saluda Doss Harris. I am trying to locate anything on Joseph S. Harris b. abt 1862 and William R. Harris, b. abt 1866. I cannot find either Joseph S. nor William R. Harris in the 1880 census records. If you have a Joseph or William that you cannot place within your tree, I would love to hear from you. I know that they were in Stokes NC in 1870 in a section of the county known as Moorefield Store which borders southern Patrick County. Many years ago this section of Patrick County was known as the Nettle Ridge area. Pat C. Johns in Va.
