I originally had (and think that many others do also) Andrew Jackson Foley married to Lucinda Deal Witt. Well, I was looking for something specific that I couldn’t bring up, so I was going through the entire 1850 Census report for Patrick Co. In it it shows the following: 266 281 Saunders Witt 56 M Violet “ 46 F Lucinda Deal “ 18 F Then just a bit down on the very same page: 268 283 A. Jackson Foley 30 M Lucinda “ 20 F Elvira “ 5 F Hester “ 3 F However, I also have this: 1850 PCVA Marriages - pre 1853 - Male Foleys: Andrew J. Foley and Lucinda Witt 20 Jan 1843 Surety: Saunders Witt Min. Joshua Adams So, the only thing I can figure here is that there are either 2 Lucinda Witts - both daughters of Saunders, which seems a tad unlikely - or 2 A(ndrew) J(ackson) Foleys. Does anyone know if there is any connection between the Witt family of Patrick Co. and the Witts in White Co., Tenn?? My mother's maiden name was Witt and they were from in and around that area. Her grandfather was Andrew Jackson Witt. It seems clear to me that there are 2 Lucinda Witts. Saunders Witt, the father of the younger Lucinda, probably uncle of the older Lucinda who married 1843 to A. Foley and was surety for that marriage. There was also Lucy Witt who md Samuel Howell before 1837 appears to be Saunders' sister according to a PCVA Chancery case brought by Saunders Witt. This implies that the elder Lucy who md A. Foley was not Saunders' sister, so was probably his niece or cousin) Yes that makes 3 Lucy Witts, b. ~1817, ~1829, and ~1831. The age of the oldest child on the 1850 census (5) fits nicely with a couple who had been married seven years as of 1850. Also, Saunders Witt was s/o William and Susan Witt according to PCVA Death Records.
