    1. Lydia, wife of William Harris II of Patrick County VA?
    2. I recently proposed that there were three generations of William Harris in early Patrick County VA. William Harris I died in the late 1780s, and he was married to a Sarah. Most of his children are known, thanks to a deed they signed. The first known child was James, thought to have been born in Buckingham County about 1752. William I and Sarah also had a son named William about whom little is known. I have argued that this was the William mentioned as the father of Patsy Harris and Elizabeth Harris in their marriage records. I also believe this William Harris II was the father of William Harris III, who was born about 1790 and married Elizabeth Hylton and later perhaps Sarah Tuggle. I recently came across a deed that may provide the first name of the wife of William II. The deed dated 1 Apr 1817 in Patrick County Deed Book 4, p. 392 was from “William and Lydda Harris” to Thomas Tennison and was for 232 acres on Joint Crack and Widgeon Creek “where sd Harris now lives.” This was the area where William I and William III lived, but of course William I was deceased by 1817, and William III was still married to Elizabeth Hylton. I therefore suggest that the William in this deed was William II, and the first name of his wife was Lydda, or more likely, Lydia. It is interesting that Elizabeth Harris, whom I propose to be the daughter of William II, married a David Edens, and their first daughter, born 5 Jun 1814, was named Lydia. Lydia married John Harris, son of William III and Elizabeth Hylton, who would have been her first cousin if I am not mistaken. If anyone has information on a William and Lydia Harris, possibly married in Buckingham County VA in the 1780s, we would like to hear from you. Charles Leon Harris
