In its index: James Reynolds, living in Meadows of Dan area in 1830, home as post office; head of household 1820; Captain in Civil War, served with sons. James Fay Reynolds, b. 1871 d. 1940, son of P. Calloway, superintendent of schools 1914 - 1940. Jesse (1) father of Milly, served in Revolution, early settler, Rock Castle/Smith River area, land owner 1791. Jesse (2), head of household 1820. Jesse Fay Reynolds, son of James Fay, Stuart postmaster. John Reynolds, father of Captain James, served in War of 1812. John N., active in Critz community. Milly Reynolds, daughter of Jesse, married Barnabas Baliles 1807. On page 443, is stated ...Barnabas married Milly Reynolds in 1807. Milly Reynolds was the daughter of Jesse Reynolds, a relative of the family that founded the Reynolds tobacco business and fortune." Moses Reynolds, early settler, Rock Castle/Smith River area; landowner 1791; built grist mill, 1802, head of household 1820. Page 325 Jeremiah Moles was living on Goblintown Creek. Bartlett, George and Richard Reynolds lived for a time in the Rock Castle-Smith River are along with Moses, David and Jesse Reynolds. Most of the Reynoldses moved across Bull Mountain to the Critz area. "Another prominent family of the area is the Reynolds family, Captain James "Jimmy Reynolds and his three sons, Powell B. Reynolds, Tilghman D. Reynolds and Cardwell M. Reynolds all served as soldiers in the Civil War. John Reynolds probably the father of Captain James, served in the War of 1812. P. Calloway Reynolds served as a Civil War soldier also and was an early postmaster. Powell B. Reynolds, son of Captain James, became president of the University of West Virginia. (In my book) "James Fay Reynolds (1871-1940) son of P. Callaway Reynolds, served as superintendent of schools in Patrick County from 1914 to 1940, by far the longest time served by any Patrick superintendent. His son, Jesse Fay Reynolds, served as postmaster at Stuart for many years." My Reynolds in my book "Early Virginia Settlers, includes Shelors as my mother was a Shelor. Roxana Shelor married James B.Reynolds in Patrick Co., VA, son of John Reynolds, b. 1786, and Permelia Mabry. Their children were Powell B., Tilghman Dexter, Cardwell, Columbia Rowena, Elam O., Walter Manderville, Octavius, Winnie, Linville and Mattie Victoria Reynolds. Their wives and husband, also children, are listed in my book for Roxana Shelor was my great, great aunt. Marriages of Patrick Co. 1791 - 1850 by Lela C. Adams: Jan. 31, 1840, James Reynolds and Roxana Shelor, daughter of John Shelor, Minister William Lawson (My great grandfather). 27 Sept. 1827 John Reynolds and Ann Harbour. David Harbour states that Ann has lived with his family for two years and is of age. 20 March 1811 Barnabas Balisle and Milley Reynolds. Sur. Jesse Reynolds.
