Afternoon, June 10, 1935, p. 3, col. 3 [edited]. P:atrick Springs, June 8. J. W. Fulcher, 73, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Hancock, Wednesday. Funeral services were conducted at the old home place near here Thursday afternoon. He is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Robert Hancock, Patrick Springs; Mrs. Hassie Reynolds, Critz; Dick Fulcher, Roanoke and Grant Fulcher, Bassett. A notice in the paper dated June 24th, page 7, col. 5, included the following information. Patrick Springs. John W. Fulcher passed away June 5 at the home of his daughter near Patrick Springs. He was afflicted with cancer for several years. He was born August 23, 1862, and on December 25, 1883 was married to Lucy Ann Martin. To this union were born eight children. His wife and four children preceded him to the grave several years ago. He leaves four children: R. G. Fulcher, Roanoke; Mrs. Robert Hancock, Patrick Sprigns; Grant Fulcher, Ferrum and Mrs. Hassie Reynolds, Critz. The obit posted was for Lucy Ann's husband, not father. If I have all my facts right (still in the process of "proving all things"), Lucy Ann Martin Fulcher was the sister of my gr-grandfather John Robert Martin. They were among the children of John C. Martin (b 10/21/1829, d ?) & Elizabeth Ann Fulcher (b 1828 d ?). John C. and E.A. married in Patrick Co. on 10/5/1849 Elizabeth Ann Fulcher Martin was the daughter of Edmond and Nancy Nowlin Fulcher Sr. Don't know what the relationship between Edmond and Lucy's father-in-law Gabriel is. In the 1860 census, their dwellings are not close numerically. Lucy's dad John C. Martin was the son of Isaac Martin Sr. (b 9/1/1782 d 8/28/1872) and Susanna Perdie Rogers (b 1800 d ?). They married in Patrick County on 10/27/1827.
