    3. Alexander Jennings THOMPSON, b. Franklin CoVA 23 Nov 1832, d. 25 Sept 1864 in a US Army Field Hospital, the sixth day after he was wounded in the Third Battle of Winchester, or the Battle of Opequon. He was serving as a Teamster with the 45th Regiment., Confederate States Army. He was a member of Co. F., having enlisted 29 May 1861, at Wytheville, VA, for a period of 12 mos. by Col. H. Heth. He left behind a wife, nee Charlotte Adeline CANNADAY, a daughter, Martha Ann, then not quite six years old, and two sons, Peter Henry, then four, and Samuel J., two years old. He was the son of George P. THOMPSON, a veteran of the War of 1812, and Jane INGRAM, and the grandson of Jennings THOMPSON, who served from Goochland CoVA in the Revolutionary War, and Elizabeth STREET of Pittsylvania CoVA. He was my great-great-grandfather, and I am remembering him this Memorial Day. I know nothing of the circumstances of his being wounded, or of where the field hospital in which he died was. Though he died in the custody of the Union Army, I have thus far been unable to find our where his body might have been buried.
