Does anyone have information about a James Wade (probably a son of Ballinger Wade) who married Jane King? I am trying to find the name of Jane King's parents. Thank you. Mary
Elnora, Not that I am aware of. I started working about 20 years ago, on Illinois only, and have gradually enlarged the number of states, but it has taken a lot of work to gather up old church records which we have in our collection, and I knew it could take a lifetime of work for each state in the deep south to do the same thing with the same degree of depth as I have done for Illinois, writing a history of the churches county by county. Robert, Thanks so much, for all your hard work. One set of my Great Grandparents Thomas White & Sarah Ann Pyle were married in the Silver Creek Church, near Rome, Floyd Co., GA by "Kinchin Rambo". Just trying to find their parents- Think some of my Patrick & Henry Co., VA families were in one of the churches around there-I've seen something in the info but can't remember right now. Will look and post to the list if I can find it again. Dear friends, We have over 56,000 names of past and present members entered into a database, for Primitive Baptist churches in several states - a very small fraction of the total members, but a start. If anyone can help us by providing lists of members for any Primitive Baptist churches in Pulaski or surrounding counties, we would appreciate the help. We are hoping to improve our database for Pulaski, Patrick, Floyd, Carroll, and other counties in that region. We have a large collection of minutes of the New River association, and some other associations in that area. Anyone wishing to check our website may do so by going to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Thank you kindly, Robert Webb The Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois
Thanks, Tom! The page of information on Patrick Co. Research was very helpful! Also, your mention of Andy Griffith's mom reminded me to ask--does anyone know exactly how his mom connects to the family and descendants of William Nunn and Sally Beasley? I came across one of what I am sure is many versions of Andy's ancestry online but couldn't seem to make the connection myself. It's probably because I am still missing quite a few links in there, especially in the more recent lines. As I've mentioned before, I've been stuck on the Turner family from Montgomery and Davidson Counties, NC, and I am just now getting to a point where I can focus my attention elsewhere. I got lots yet to learn! Thanks for the information, Alpha! You have been a big help! I can't actually get up there to do my research at the present but knowing what's there and how to access it will help me figure out how to get to it, and that is exactly what I needed to know. And I'm one of the folks who contributed a little of the NUNN information to the new Heritage Book. I wrote a short piece on William, his wives and children. I look forward to getting my copy (my aunt purchased it as my Christmas gift, bless her heart!), and finding out what other people contributed this year. I still enjoy the first volume! Places to do Patrick County Research http://www.freestateofpatrick.com/research.htm Andy Griffith's mother was a Nunn from Kibler Valley. O. E. Pilson's Cemetery Book is a good source for cemeteries. There is an index of The Enterprise by Clayton Boaz and microfilm of it at the Patrick County library as well. Tom Perry P. O. Lee, I can help you a little with your query....The Enterprise (known previously as Voice of the People) is an excellent source of information for the time period you are requesting, but in all honesty, the better records on microfilm are after 1920. If you could go to their office, you could actually look at the real papers and even though it might take you time, it might be worth your while. Now with regard to the volunteer birth & death records---these are in one book at the Patrick County Circuit Court Clerk's Office. It is indexed, and you go to the page number and look for the name you are trying to find on that page and read across the information and no, the original records are not there. They were simply written into ledgers. There are Nunn stories in our Patrick County Heritage Book Volume II which might be of help to you. We also have a member who is a Pike. Good morning, Everyone! Got a few questions for you guys: Firstly, my ggreat-grandparents William NUNN and Martha Jane PIKE probably passed away in Patrick County, Virginia. I know of no date of death for William but some undocumented information circulating around the internet suggests Martha Jane died on 11 October 1911. I know there are no death records for Patrick County between 1896 and 1912, so I am looking for another way to prove or disprove this date, and I was wondering about a possible death notice or obituary. Does anyone know of any extant newspapers for that area and time period? I checked the Library of Virginia and it listed some papers but it does not tell what issues are available for any particular year. Secondly, are records/certificates of those deaths that did occur before 1896 available at the county level or must you order them from the State Vital Records Office? And lastly, does anyone know where any NUNN or PIKE family members are buried? I have been seeking the burial places of William and all his wives and children, his parents, and the parents of Martha Jane PIKE with nary a lead to go on so far. So, if you know where anyone by these surnames is buried, it might be the clue I need. Thank you for any assistance! Jeb Stuart Park is available July 8th if we get someone to volunteer to head the picnic. E-mail me privately with comments - suggestions. Barb S. barbstanley@cox.net
I will list the things I can think of that have to be done for all of you ---- 1. Set a date and be sure Tom can get Jeb Stuart's Birthplace. Tom is checking several available dates. 2. Decide what will be furnished and how it will be paid for. I had been furnishing paper tablecloths, plates, cups, napkins, knives, forks and spoons, prizes and the music until last year when Allison did most of the work and we split the cost. Allison always furnishes a ham. Some subscribers made donations to help with the cost. 3. Decide if you want any music. Chuck mentioned helping with music. 4. Prizes for whatever 5. Name tags 6. Register Whoever heads this and his/her helpers will be pretty much on their own in deciding what all to have. Last year Allison did a fantastic job getting all the crafts people and book sellers there. But it is up to the person in charge. Barb S.
