My Massey's include Obediah Massey who married Lavinia Holly. Do you happen to have anything on this family. At 07:00 AM 8/16/98 -0500, you wrote: >Is anyone connected to the Chandler line in Patrick County? >I am looking for a marriage date for Isaac Chandler and Martha McMillian. ======================================= Good Morning Everyone, Guess it's time to discuss "Subject Lines".  :-) All of our "Lists" have a searchable archive.  After you reach the web site you key in VAPATRIC and on the next screen you key in the SUBJECT for which you want information.  This brings up all the messages posted to this list that pertain to that subject. If I keyed in "Chandler" or "McMillian"  the above message would not come up.  Thus, I probably would never know who was looking for these people. ALSO, if there is NO SUBJECT in the subject field "Smartlist" may read the post as a "subscription request" and send a message that "you are already on the subscriber list" rather than sending the post to the list. If you send a message with "Chandler-McMillian" in the subject field and the REPLY changes to Chandler and Jones then the subject field SHOULD BE CHANGED to show this. I'm just as guilty as any of you -- sometime I forget to change the subject. But it is really best if we do it right. Hope everyone understands.  I certainly don't want to cause any hard feelings.  You all are a VERY good bunch of people - always willing to share and be as helpful as possible.  For that I am grateful. If you ever have any suggestions or complaints please e-mail me privately. Thanks for your understanding. Barb S. Barbara Stanley List Owner bobnroa@pipeline.com Archives for Patrick Co. 3. Joyce, I have Martha in my database, but I didn't have any spouse for her. Of course, this is all much later than the marriage between Abijah and Sarah Chandler McMillion. Thanks for your info. I'll check some marriage records in surrounding counties and see what I can find. Thanks again. Velpo. 2. Does anyone have any information on RICHARD CULLAND and ELIZABETH MCMILLIAN, married February 8, 1838 in Surry County, North Carolina? The bondsman was Samuel McMillian, assumed to be the brother of Elizabeth, and Elizabeth McMillian is assumed to be the daughter of Dudley McMillian and Elizabeth Hicks. I would appreciate hearing from descendants or from those researching this family. Thank you, William

    3. Joyce, Do you have any clue as to Martha McMillian's parents? There was a marriage in Patrick Co. between Abijah McMillion and Sarah "Sally" Chandler on July 6, 1828. Abijah was a son of William McMillion, but William did not have a daughter named Martha so she must be a daughter of one of the other older McMillion men in Patrick. There's a good chance, however, that Isaac and Sarah Chandler were brother and sister. Do you have an approximate marriage date for Isaac and Martha? Names of their children? There could be a clue there. Thanks. The answer is "yes." Josiah Hiatt is a descendant of the original Quaker John Hiatt--from Pennsylvania --and from Frederick County, Virginia, the Hopewell Meeting. They came down to Guilford County, North Carolina, then were in Surry County before moving up into Patrick County, Virginia. Catherine Hiatt, daughter of John Hiatt, married Jonathan Harrold, and they are the ancesors of much of the Harrold family in Patrick and Carroll County and in NC, including ELizabeth Harrold, who married Samuel Bowman. Josiah Hiatt married Abscilla White. Her death certificate shows that she was the daughter of Arnold and Lydia White. I have not been able to trace Arnold and Lydia White back farther, but I hope there is someone out there who can help us. Abscilla White's sister, Maza White, married Palen Chappell, son of Isaac Chappell and Elizabeth Palen, of Perquimmons County, North Carolina (Quakers). Thus the Whites may be originally from that area. Let me know if you see other connections, Thank you, William Harrold

    3. I have a John Eaton who married Frances Burrus in Patrick Co. on April 20, 1809. Could this be the same man? I have no children listed for them, but they participated in the estate sale of William Burrus in Grayson Co. in 1813, so it is assumed that Frances was William's daughter. 2. Joyce recently posted a note about her surnames from PCVA. I share the Hiatt and McMillan connection. My 2nd great grandmother Nancy Hiatt married Sam McMillan. She was widowed and married my 2nd great grandfather John Willis. There were children by both marriages. If anyone wants to share, I am pleased to share what I have, although it is not much. I look forward to hearing from anyone researching these lines. Jan Willis Williams Stone Mt, GA (native of Floyd Co, VA)
