    3. Hi Dolly, I took the liberty of redirecting your message to the Patrick Co. List. I hope someone here can help. In the meantime I will be looking in what books I have to see if I can come up with anything. Barb S. ======================================= HelloBarb, I'm new to this list and wonder if you could help me. I am looking for information on Reuben Atkins that was from Patrick Co. VA. I can't seem to get any farther than Reuben. He came to Trigg Co., KY around 1840 or so. I was hoping someone could help me. A cousin of mine has been to Patrick Co. VA and found some Atkins but she didn't get to stay long enough to find out anything. Please help. Dollie

    3. Marsha, the next county south of Patrick Co., VA is Surry Co., NC. In Surry, most of the Hudson's spell their name "Hutson". They consider the two spellings to be interchangeable I believe. There were Joyce's in Surry also. Don't overlook this spelling if you continue to seek info on your Hudsons. 3. Thanks to Nettie Clifton, I made a connection with my Elisha Boyd, b. abt. 1807, Patrick Co., to Robert Boyd, b. abt. 1780 and married 23 Oct 1806 in Patrick Co. Robert and either a cousin or brother came to Russell Co. with a cousin Jonathon Boyd in the early 1800's. My question: does anyone have info or a suggestion about the parents of Robert and where these Boyds came from before they were in Patrick Co.? Thanks. Janet Estep

    3. Hi! I am researching MARTINS (descendents of Isaac Martin c1720 of Halifax Co.) and SHELTONS (descendents of Ralph Shelton c1680 of Middlesex Co.) who ended up in Patrick Co. I have already found much information in Patrick Co. Historical Society and Bassett Public Library collections, thanks probably to many of you who are reading this! Still trying to tie up loose ends. (Problem is, in genealogy there are no 'ends' except the present!) David Martin

    1. STUART
    2. Hi Beth and David and all you Patrick County Rooters, Thanks for all the info, but I'm still stuck! I knew about the town of Stuart and grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Stuart even said she was "some kind of kin" to J.E.B. Stuart, but I just can't find the connection. I know it sounds as though it would be a simple problem but it's not! John Alexander Stuart b. July 1852 m. 1873 Edmannia (not certain of spelling- daughter Mary spelled it Ednaannia, but she spelled her father Alexzander) Virginia Davis b. March 1857. We found them in Pulaski in the 1900 census and in Bland County in the 1880 census, but cannot find either one prior to that. Guess it is possible that John could be the son of one of J.E.B.'s brothers?? I know I must be missing something very obvious. I was hoping that with all the Stuarts out there, some would be on this list. I guess that would be too- o-o-o easy. Thanks for all the help and for listening! 2. David Conner
    3. You may already know this, but, Stuart is the County Seat. Taylorsville was the old name of the town. After the Civil War, Taylorsville was renamed Stuart in honor of the Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart, who was a Patrick Co. native. His father, Archibald Stuart was married to the daughter of William Letcher who was killed by a Tory in 1780. Archibald Stuart & family moved to the Letcher homeplace on the Ararat river and this is where J.E.B. Stuart was born.
