Hi You All, Mary Hudson, County Coordinator of the Patrick Co., Va GenWeb Page, has asked me to let you know she will be away for two weeks and will post any queries when she returns. Mary has done a terrific job with the web page. Hope everyone will visit. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapatric/ If you have any contributions to make to the web page I know Mary will be very glad to hear from you. Thanks, Barb S.
Here are some Patrick Co., VA records from my PENNINGTON research: The following was provided from Viola Pennington - Ell: Dr. Isaac Pennington's fathers name was John Pennington who lived and died in England (this is verbal info. from relatives). Dr. Isaac was born in England and came to America to seek his fortune. He lived in Lycoming, PA, N.C., and PATRICK CO., VA. He married Agnes (Brown) Martindale. The marriage certificate was seen by a relative who has lost track of it. The original was found in the town of Blackburg, near Radford, VA. They were married at Dunkard's Bottom, VA (now under water), but I understand all the records were moved to Blacksburg, VA. No proof. Henry Co., VA (later Patrick Co., VA) Land Grants and Patents (obtained from Jim Pennington 3/18/96): Book K, page 339, #558. Richard Davidson, 28 Feb 1784, 113 acres on the branches of Elk Creek. There was a land transaction between Jacob Fulk and Joseph Pennington in Surry County, 9 Dec 1809 made in the presence of Henry Lamb and Jacob Smith. The 1812 tax list of Surry County North Carolina shows Joseph Pennington with 460 acres and one white poll; Isaac Pennington with 349 acres and one white poll; and Henry Lamb, Sr. with 100 acres and no white poll. Apparently Grace Martindale's family stayed in Patrick County. The 1810 tax records for Patrick County, Virginia show Daniel, John and William B. Martindale and Isaac Pennington on the same page. Back in the 1787 tax records of Virginia, several Penningtons, including an Isaac were listed in Bourbon County which was a large part of what was to become eastern Kentucky. That countie's tax list also had William Anderson, William Lamb, and Jeremiah Dunn. Perhaps Joseph and Grace were even married in Kentucky? There were no Martindales in the available early census records for Virginia, but they are in the 1810 tax list for Patrick County. * * * Apparently some of Daniel Martindale's family stayed in Patrick County. The 1810 tax records for Patrick County, Virginia show Daniel, John and William B. Martindale and Isaac Pennington. This was apparently Daniel Martindale, III because his children's births and marriages indicate he stayed in Patrick/Surry. It could be that the Isaac Pennington was Joseph's father. This would make Joseph an uncle of the Grahams who married Willis Lamb's brothers Alva and Samuel. The published marriage register for Patrick County did not show Grace's marriage. It could have been unrecorded, especially if it was a Quaker marriage, or they may have married in North Carolina. However, Daniel may have gone as far as Alabama. The following land transaction is recorded: * * * I hope this helps someone. Melinda Pennington

Hi Everybody, Mary Hudson, the new county coordinator for Patrick County VAGENWEB Home Page, would like to know if there are any researchers on this list who would like to have their home page URL's listed on the Patrick Co. "Morning All, There's lots of good stuff at the new Patrick Co. Home Page. You might want to check it out! http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapatric/ Barb S.
Have you left a query on the Patrick County Home page. We are starting a new page url with a new host, but all the old querys are still there. There you can view queries and post to the old form. The queries posted now will remain with us. I am trying to get a new form set in place and bring everything up to date. Barb the mail list hostes for VAPATRIC has agreed to be my co-host on this page and we hope to be of assistance to everyone researching Patrick Co.VA in the future. In the mean time I have placed a search file in the page which will allow you to do more searching on your own. Mary Hudson CC for USGenWeb Patrick Co. Hi Rooters, I have posted this before, but didn't find the answer, so am going to try again, on the chance that someone out there knows who these two women are! 1850 Russell census has #128 Ruth Bays 48 TN, Cynthia 29 VA George A. 7, (actually this is great grandfather George W. H.), James 5, John 3. 1860 Russell census has #110 Cynthia Bays 39 (seamstress), George B. 17, James K. P. 14, John T. 13, Edward 9, Ruth Bays 73 TN. Despite the fact that poor Ruth aged 25 years in the 10 years between the two census reports, I am still hoping to find one or more husbands for these two women! Was Cynthia Ruth's daughter or daughter in law? When I checked the marriage records for George and James, they stated under parents - Cynthia Bays. I am completely stuck! PLEASE someone, tell me who Ruth and Cynthia are! Thanks so much for any help you can give me! Anne Bays
With all the Thomas info I've been receiving, I have a bunch of duplicate names. Can you help me sort them out? Is Peter Thomas, son of Deborah Jordan and Charles Thomas, the same Peter Thomas that married Sarah Akers Dec. 31, 1826? Thanks for any help! Sherry Crawford dansher@cybrtown.com
Can someone confirm this? Is Moses Martin the father of David Harbour Martin that married Harriet E. Bowling? If so, do you know the name of Moses' wife? Thanks for any help. Sherry Crawford dansher@cybrtown.com
