    1. Re: VAPATRIC-D Digest V98 #90 Moran Slaves
    2. Cynthia Wilson
    3. To Terri: Yes, I am very interested in the names of the slaves. The Moran slaves maybe related to my great grandmother's brother, Peter Vaughn. I recently received a newspaper article, dated January 1950, about Nannie Vaughn (1859-1950) (Peter's wife)who reported that her slave master was Jim Mourning. I looked for a spelling of that name but kept coming up with "Moran". A birth record for Nannie's sister,Jathina, appeared with Nelson Moran as the owner. As a side note: Edward Wood purchased a slave January 1855 from a Lott Lee (the sale was recorded as a "deed" not a "bill of sale"). Her name was Lucy. Lucy was my 3 great grandmother and Lott Lee's wife. (both are listed as black). When Edward Wood died (Jan 1860), Lucy was listed on his inventory but was not listed on the inventory of goods sold. Lucy and Lott were both found on the 1860 Free Inhabitants Census (dated July 1860). I am not sure if Lucy was given her freedom by the Mary Wood or Lott repurchased her and then gave her freedom. I have not been able to find freedom papers for Lucy. Thanks for information. == Cynthia A. Wilson Seattle, WA _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
