Romona, Thanks for the compliment. I hope it doesn't generate too many questions. I have a stack of e-mail messages now to re-read and answer what I can, if it hasn't already been answered. I am enjoying it though, and if we get some of our questions ironed out, then we will have better information to leave for the next generation. Take care. Nettie
I, too, have a copy of the original marriage certificate. Joseph Taylor Light married Julina Bowman. The confusion may be from the fact that he is the son of James Light and an error was made in the transcription of the records. Now, can anyone help me find out when Julina's mother, Mahala Bowman Slaughter Reynolds died? bnc

Does anyone have a second wife for Steven Green PENDLETON? His first wife, Sarah Jane HYLTON, died Dec.29,1883 of childbed fever. Other children I've been given were Mary Frances b. 2/25/1880, John E. b. 7/24/1881, and Walter G. b. 10/1885. As you can see, these are after Sarah's death. Did Steven Green have a second wife or are these not his children? Thanks for any help! Sherry Crawford dansher@tkdyer.com http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/r/a/Sherry-L-Crawford/index.html

BoardStock@aol.com The answer is JOSEPH, spelled out on the original marriage record. (Jos. & Jas. are difficult to distinguish in the handwritten form when so abbreviated.) Nettie S. I have been studying the 1850 Slave schedule for Patrick County. In the course of that study I noticed that at least 5 gentlemen were listed as "Agents" and/or having slaves. They are: Drury Mazs - 20 slaves William Mazs - 15 slaves Berry Miller - 37 slaves Oliver Shelton - 27 slaves Jesse Giles - 79 slaves. Can anyone tell me if these individuals were the custodians of these slaves and then hired them out; or were they in the business of selling slaves. Any clues I might get on their occupation(s) will help me in finding out where slaves were purchased in Patrick County. I also noticed that Abram Staples had an unusual amount of slaves in 1850 (about 170). Did his occupation require him to be the custodian of county slaves. The 1850 scheduled does not have the notation "Agent" next to his name. == Cynthia A. Wilson Seattle, WA _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
