    3. Sherry Crawford, I don't know about your Corns, but here is some Slaughter info from my Handy Records. Hope it helps. Nettie S. 3. The age given at a marriage is not always correct.....For example, my grandmother married my grandfather in 1898 when she was 27 yrs. old and he was 18. Their marriage certificate gives her age as 22...Evidently that sounded better than the nine year difference would have, especially since he was so young. The death notice list the place of birth for John Slaughter as Floyd Co. Does anyone have access to the marriage records of Floyd as he may have married Mahala Bowman there instead of PCVA? bnc

    3. I'm not convinced that George and Betty Bowman are the parents of Mahala Bowman. If Mahala married James Dallas Reynolds in 1872 and listed her age as 30 and dau. of George and Betty Bowman, she would have been born in 1842. Her birth date has been documented as being 1834-1835 in the 1860 and 1870 PCVA Census'. That's a stretch of about 8 years between the above marriage and the census' dates. I've been told to rely more upon information given closest to the date of the event. I also checked every 1850 PCVA Bowman family. I didn't find a Geo and Betty listed in 1850. I did find the only Mahala in 1850 Census in the following household(Southern Dist. Pg 392, #654: Rachel Bowman 50 Galin(?) 20 M Jefferson 10 Malinda ? Mary 17 Mahala 15 This puts her age as the same as the Census' when she was married to John Slaughter and the one after his death. This is also next door to the Harman (Norman) Bowman that Nettie Clifton stated was her parent. Harman(age 55) is listed in that census with Nathan age 15. Who is Rachel? A relative of Harman and Mahala is staying with her? Does anyone have a marriage certificate for John Slaughter and Mahala Bowman listing parents? Any comments? 2. There is a book titled "The Stovall Family in America" written by Carmae Massey Smith of Houston, Texas that has a tremendous amount of genealogy in it. It starts with Bartholomew Stovall and Ann Burton who came to Virginia about 1684 and the Patrick Co. Stovalls trace their lineage through these two. I have had my book for approx. 20 years. Her address listed in the book is 4614 Ivanhoe St., Houston, TX 77027 Becky

    3. It seems to be the same one going by the dates, I've found that they don't always match. I have Robert as being born in 1832 amd this census says l9 which is close enough as I have since found out his father was Thomas I DeHart. Thank you for your help.
