Richard Parsons is her father. 2. I have seen Joseph Parsons listed as father of Richard. I think there was an error made in the pension application. 3. PITTSYLVANIA MARRIAGE RECORDS indicate: "10 Sept. 1782. John Midkiff and Mary Parsons. Married by Rev. Have you read the 'pension' application? His wife also filed for 'widow's pension' in 1841. As of 1830, census indicate John was living in Patrick co. which is where he filed from.

Apparently, there was some of John MIDKIFF Sr.' children left Pittsylvania co. VA. for Kanawha co. WV. and some went to Patrick co. VA. This is also true of the PARSON's. To make matters even more confusing, 2-3 generations named their children with the same 'given' names and born in the same years, although in different places. - ie: "John MIDKIFF(b. abt. 1740) m. Mary Agnes PARSONS(b. abt. 1744)" Pittsylvania co. VA. Several of their children went to Kanawha co. WV. "John MIDKIFF(b. March 11, 1762; d. July 18, 1839) m. Mary{Agnes?} PARSONS(b. abt. 1764; d. aft. 1841)" Their children appear to have gone to Patrick co. VA. Pittsylvania co.>>Patrick co. VA. This 'John' was Rev. War vet. In the Will of "Richard PARSONS", 1785 - does this refer to the 1st "John and Agnes" or the 2nd "John and Mary A."? Are the (2) 'John's father and son? eileen
I know very little of Mary Agnes Parsons and her husband John Midkiff. I do have, however, an extract of Mary's FATHER's will - made and probated in Pittsylvania County. Hope this will help someone in Patric Co. trace roots to Pittsylvania. Regards and good hunting. Dusty Smith P.S. I am searching the Midkiff/RIGNEY connection if anyone has a lead, however small. Sarah, have you had any contact with Judy or Edward Midkiff. They are brother & sister who were living in Pittsylvania Co., maybe 10 years ago. A copy of their Midkiff Family History came into my possession. I didn't make a connection at the time and filed it away. It is a great piece of work and today it looks more like family than it did before. It starts with a Jacob Midkiff arriving from England in the mid-1700's. His son, according to family lore, was John Midkiff who married Mary a daughter of Joseph Parsons, 10 September 1782. What do you think? James
