    1. TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS FOR HUBBARDS
    2. Although the following graves are located in Halifax County (on Pumping Hill Rd), since so many people in Patrick County are researching the Hubbards, I thought it might help someone. I list everyone in the cemetery because it's a small plot and they are probably related. I hope no one objects. Rebecca Anderson, wife of E. O. Hubbard Feb 15 1863 Jun 7 1911 Edgar O. 2. Hello, Regarding Caroline Carter and Hamilton Joyce -- would you know if Hamilton was the son of William B. Joyce? Thanks, Barbara Jones << Barnet (aka Bernard) Carter) (b. 1737). I have 13 children listed as belonging to Barnet, but I only have proof of the oldest two - William and Henry. Henry's oldest son was John. Apparently, John only had daughters: Caroline m Hamilton Joyce Janatte m. Charles Griffin Martha never married Lucinda m. William Alley Helenah m. 1. Haynes (Hanes) and Branson
    2. Alice Roberts
    3. Hi, New to this list and thought I would post my names. I am looking for information on Eli Hanes (as on the 1850 Missouri census) now spelled Haynes who was born in Patrick Co. in 1804. Would like some help on locating his parents and siblings names. He and his family went on to Tennessee (we think Rutherford County) where he married Mary Branson born in 1807 in Tennessee. They were married before 1828 when there first son, Martin Luther (my gggrandfather) was born. We are thinking the Branson were also from Patrick County, as we have found where other Haynes (Hanes) married into the Branson family in Patrick County. My Haynes then went onto Gasconade County Missouri (along with some Bransons) and then ended up in Barry County, Missouri, where some of the Haynes still live) Would appreciate any help with either one of these families. Thanks, Alice Roberts, El Reno, OK

This is not a hunt for ghost towns, but a hunt for the location of the places found on documents we have, but can no longer find the towns on new atlas's or at the post office. What I am requesting you send is the Town name, County - if known, STATE, and the hwy near the area, or county road it was located on or near. You can search for a town at this url http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo this is not my project, but is a very good file to keep handy MY project can be found at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mahudson/bygone/by-gonecomstates.htm I hope we all benefit from this project. 3. Listers, please, put something in the subject line that describes what's in your post. "New subscribers" must have gone around 10 times and no one bothered to change the subject line. Including a descriptive subject line doesn't just help the reader; it helps you if you want folks to read your post. I promise I'm not being picky; just making a suggestion :-)

    2. A STANDING OVATION FOR JEAN LAWSON WITH MY GRATITUDE AND THANKS. The culprit in the subject identification problem if two fold. The first fold is the convenience of the reply/send button and the second fold is the inability and/or unwillingness of the reply poster to take about nine (9) seconds to change the subject. In my book the cause of the second fold might be categorized as inattention bordering on laziness. I'm not sure subscribers know that all posts are archived at Rootsweb under the identified subject matter in addition to the content of the post. If you have done any Rootsweb archiving you know the difficulty presented by this failure to change the subject when the thread of the post has changed. It also makes a real mess for those of us who try to save, index and categorize posts. If anyone wishes to confront me for my above expression of a judgmental opinion please do so directly to me and not to the list and in doing so change the listed subject identification to "Confrontation." 3. Yes, I have that Thomas was born in Patrick County, all the census' records list him as born in VA. Richard left him with his Burnett grandparents and went to Tennessee to locate an uncle or someone there to start over. On 5 August 1984 I visited Mrs. Viola Hokins Carrier in the Hickory Tree community near Bluff City, Sullivan County, Tennessee. She was in her early eighties then and told me where to find the bruial ground of Richard Hopkins, just down the road. It was marked with plain stones. Mrs. Carrier indicated the ownership of the cemetary had been disputed for some time. She also showed me a printed history of the family there that stated Richard camped one night at Low Gap, on Holston Moutain while a group of me hunting. They told him of a big buck they had tracted for years and the next morning when he set out he encountered said buck and killed him. Based on that the ledgend goes, he decided to settle there and once he became established he went back for his son, Thomas, and married his sister in law while there. There were 9 children born to that marriage, I think I know where to find the names. Mary Webb has been a dead end for me as well. I understand that in the 1820 or 30 census of Sullivan County, TN Richard Hopkins was enumerated betwixt two Webb households, one has to be Mary's family. I hope to get back out there this summer and see what I can find. I posted a quiry to the East Tennessee list and got one responce from another dead end Webb hunter who said his family was Cherokee, which could be a significant roadblock I understand. I was told about Richard being the son of an earlier Richard from a Hopkins from Kentucky who I met at the Bassett Library 20 years ago when I was starting this and didn't have presence of mind to prusue it like I should have. I think his name was Larry Hopkins, I'm not even sure. She received her introduction to genealogy one day when a customer came into the store and asked " Where do I find the Family Group Sheets?" The new clerk, with a shocked look on her face, answered, " Family Group Sheets ?, All we carry are the King, Queen, double and twin size sheets."
