I am trying to find info on John Wesley Hopkins b. 1879 m. abt 1900 to Della Rorrer b. abt 1879. They are from Stuart in Patrick County Thanks, Paul Chapman Plano, Texas
Edward Wood was married first to Mary Moran, d/o Nelson Moran and Mary Owen. They were married in Patrick County, Va. on 23 September 1830. Mary died in 1840 at the age of 28. Their chilren were: Alexander, Elizabeth, Elijah, Mary Jane and German. Edward Wodd was married secondly to Nancy Nowlin, d.o Richard Nowlin and Mary "Polly" Burnett on 4 December 1841 in Franklin County, Va. The online death record in incorrect in stating "Nancy Moran Wood" and can't imagine the original record would give that detailed information. Their children were Sarah ("Sallie"), Lucy ("Lina"), Louisa and Louvenia (twins), Frances ("Fannie"), Nancy Adline, Susan R., Julie Ellen, and John R. Nancy Nowlin died in 1896.
I am researching the surnames Anderson and Epperson in Patrick County. There are no Andersons in Patrick County before 1870, though my grandmother says my grandfather's family moved there in 1818. On David Anderson's death certificate the father is listed as Jacob though the family history says that David's father was Marion Anderson. Supposedly, Marion moved to Patrick County after 1817 when he married Jane Faugerson (Ferguson. Additionally, a GEDCOM file that I found lists Meredith Anderson m. Jane Faugerson (Ferguson). David's second son Meredith served in the Civil War. Any info would be helpful. LAP _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I am another desendant of Richard Wood. I have three of his wives: Rachael ,,Elizabeth DeHart, and Lucy Via. One of Richard and Lucy's daughters - Nancy - married my great grandfather Joseph C. (not to be confused with Joseph H. who had the rolling mills and whiskey business) DeHart. I also would like to know the name of the other wife (or wives). Some of the stories have him with more than four - but with four of their graves surrounding his. Hi Lainie, Thanks so much for all this information on Richard Wood. He sure was a busy man!! A question or two -- On the 1850 Patrick Census Edward Wood b. abt 1810-1811 is listed with Nancy b. abt. 1815. Do you know if this is a second wife or what?? Also on the 1850 Patrick Census - there is Richard Wood, Sr. with wife Lucy and next door is Richard Wood, Jr. b. abt. 1810 with wife Elizabeth. Do you know who this Richard Jr. is? I thought maybe it was John Richard but the age is right far off and John Richard's wife was Lucinda. Thanks a bunch!! Barb S.
According to the Mercer Co. WV. records, German Woods married Nancy Massey Brammer 52 yr widow on June 18, 1871. Nancy was the d/o John Massey and Nancy Bartlett. Nancy Bartlett was b. April 3, 1792 married John Massey Feb. 16, 1810. I am trying to find the father of William Alexander Woods b.June 13, 1863 and d. Mar.1, 1931, married Lucinda Quinn Mar. 27, 1884. Could he be the grandson of German Woods. Margaret Butler - margarat@cwv.net

Laura: There are no Andersons in my family; however when I read your message, I picked up Barbara C. Baughan and Betty A. Pilson's "Patrick Co., Va., Deed Index Abstracts, 1791-1850," and found two Andersons in Patrick Co. before 1870. ANDERSON, Nathaniel (by Clerk), to STAPLES, Abram et al. Tax Deed dated 1 Apr 1835, Book 8, p. 501. PHILLPOTT, Adison to ANDERSON, Allen. Deed dated 13 Oct 1831, Book 8, p. 11. Sounds like your grandmother knew what she was talking about. You might want to request copies of these deeds from the Patrick Co. Courthouse. Good luck! Mary C.
