    3. Laura, Concerning ANDERSON listed (by Mary Smith) as being in the Patrick Deed Abstracts, I think there may be an error in the listing for deed from Adison Philpott to "Anderson, Allen", 1831. This should probably be for "Allen, Anderson". Philpott had already made 1 deed to him, and there was in Patrick an ANDERSON ALLEN. Sorry! Only Anderson I found in Marriages, 1791-1850/3, was that of Mary Anderson to John Koger, 19 Sep 1807. 1. Dan River District
    2. Hi, I wanted to thank Barb R. for the info on my Hurd's. John Green Hurd was my g-grandfather. He married first a Minnie, who is probably the Minta Fain in the marriage record Barb found. Claiborne was his brother. We were always told that he jumped out of a hotel window to his death. Don't know why...... John Green Hurd moved to Pulaski County VA where he was a merchant and minister. He wrote one book on religion during his life, played the violin and married 2 more times. He married Martha Ann Bentley in Pulaski County as well as Malissie Holbrook. He died in 1944 in Pulaski. My next question is where is the Dan River District, so that I can narrow my search ????? I did find a Martha Herd in the 1880 Patrick census with sons John and Jackson. I suppose her husband John Claiborne Hurd had died before then. Thanks for the help, at last I have something to report to my Grandma ! Carolyn Spence spencetop@aol.com

Do you know who Polly Purdy's parents are? Also, I am researching two Hollandsworth lines in Patrick Co. Do you know who are the parents of Sarah Hollandsworth who married Isham Craddock? Thanks for any information. Jean in WV

    3. Lainie, This looks like a second marriage for Nelson. Also, Edward could have married this same Nancy after Nelson died, since his wife Mary (daughter of Nelson) was dead. 3. Barb, I have been researching this line for ten years. There are a lot of descendants and a lot of mixed up info. My mother is a descendant of Peter Wood, my dad is a descendant of Alexander and Jeremiah, and my husband is a descendant of Alexander also. Peter, Alexander and Jeremiah are brothers and all sons of Richard "Dickie" Wood. Jeremiah's daugther, Lucinda Wood married Alexander's son, Richard A. Wood. These are my dad's grandparents. I have collected quite a bit of information hoping someday to publish it. I am stuck because most people claim Stephen Wood and Ann Johnson as the parents of John Wood (father of Richard ) grandparents of Richard "Dickie" Wood. I have found this is NOT TRUE. Stephen and Ann did have a son, John but his line is well documented and does not include Richard. So, for the last couple of years, I have been searching for the beginnings of John and Nelly, supposedly the parents of Richard. I am very interested in the Census records. Are they online for Bedford, Franklin and Patrick? I visited there on my vacation this summer. The grave with the 4 wives (I'm not convinced of the wives yet because of the dates. This monument was erected in the 1930's by the folks who held the Wood General Reunion. I've already found some of their info is wrong.) and the old homeplace are just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Floyd. Maybe we can get a thing going here at the Patrick site and sort all this out? I hope so. I am posting my familytreemaker site here but I have not added info to it for a long while. So, I may have more now. 3. The two Nelsons are one and the same- in fact, he married three times, the last to Sally Young. he was fairlly prolific and Truman and I are still collecting Moran cousins up and down the East Coast. The big secret of the Nelson and Mary Owen Moran family is who their parents are- I continue to hunt in Amhearst and Albemarle. Albemarle County had both a William Owen and William Moran in the mid-1700's. Nelson and Mary's first born son was named William- coincidence? Many of the Morans migrated from Albemarle and Amhearst to Ky- except Nelson who headed down to Patrick - anybody else chasing this Moran line? Pamela Ridge Moran

    3. I agree with Judith Prince there are a lot of inconsistancies and misinformation regarding the Woods out there. I feel like John Wood and Nelly are safely the parents of Richard Wood as that information was given on his death record by his son, who would have opportunity to know. I have the parents of Rachel Cockram as Edward Cockram and Mary. This I think came to us as Rachel's daughter, Anna Wood, married her first cousin, thus by explaination preserved memory of the relationship down to generations who recorded it. I have seen reference to Edward Cockram having a wife named Mary, sometimes she is and Edwards, sometimes and Isham, sometimes a Native American, we'll never know. It would be good to sit down and sort out and document what is what and publish a concise account of the Wood family, there is a real need for it.

    3. Hi, I have been watching the discussion of Richard Wood with great interest. I am not a descendant, but my Golding line may tie into the Wood line. Could it be possible that Richrad Wood's son, Henry, could be the Henry J. Wood who lived in Surry Co., NC in 1850 and married Sarah Golding in 1848? Henry named his first son Richard M. Wood. Does anyone have any insight on this? 1. Golden and Bender Families
    2. Julie Waller
    3. In 1803, William and Jacob GOLDEN sold land in Patrick County, VA. Perhaps this is the same land which was left to them by their father, Jacob GOLDEN, when he died in Henry County, VA, in 1779. At the time they sold the land, William and Jacob were residents of Tennessee. Jacob GOLDEN, the elder, had grandparents named John Wildrick and Magdalen BENDER. He had an aunt named Mary BENDER who married Joseph SOWELL, an aunt named Elizabeth BENDER who married John WILKS, and a cousin named John BENDER. John Wildrick BENDER died in Henry County about February 1774, leaving his grandson, Jacob GOLDEN, land. I find records of John W. BENDER first in Pittsylvania, then in Henry, and then his great-grandsons sell land in Patrick County, so I am operating under the assumption that the BENDERs and GOLDENs may have lived in the area that eventually became Patrick. A short outline of Jacob GOLDEN, the elder's, family is shown below. I would be happy to hear from anyone familiar with any of these people.
