    1. Lydia, wife of William Harris II of Patrick County VA?
    2. I recently proposed that there were three generations of William Harris in early Patrick County VA. William Harris I died in the late 1780s, and he was married to a Sarah. Most of his children are known, thanks to a deed they signed. The first known child was James, thought to have been born in Buckingham County about 1752. William I and Sarah also had a son named William about whom little is known. I have argued that this was the William mentioned as the father of Patsy Harris and Elizabeth Harris in their marriage records. I also believe this William Harris II was the father of William Harris III, who was born about 1790 and married Elizabeth Hylton and later perhaps Sarah Tuggle. I recently came across a deed that may provide the first name of the wife of William II. The deed dated 1 Apr 1817 in Patrick County Deed Book 4, p. 392 was from “William and Lydda Harris” to Thomas Tennison and was for 232 acres on Joint Crack and Widgeon Creek “where sd Harris now lives.” This was the area where William I and William III lived, but of course William I was deceased by 1817, and William III was still married to Elizabeth Hylton. I therefore suggest that the William in this deed was William II, and the first name of his wife was Lydda, or more likely, Lydia. It is interesting that Elizabeth Harris, whom I propose to be the daughter of William II, married a David Edens, and their first daughter, born 5 Jun 1814, was named Lydia. Lydia married John Harris, son of William III and Elizabeth Hylton, who would have been her first cousin if I am not mistaken. If anyone has information on a William and Lydia Harris, possibly married in Buckingham County VA in the 1780s, we would like to hear from you. Charles Leon Harris

    1. Re: [VAPATRIC] William A. REYNOLDS
    2. That would be great and I thank you in advance! If it helps any, William A. Reynolds' son, Anthony T. Reynolds married Martha N. Washburn, daughter of Thompson Washburn and Louisiana Stegall. One of Anthony and Mattie Reynolds' sons, Harris Turner "Hassie" Reynolds married Lucy Fulcher. Oral family history states that Anthony T. Reynolds shot one of his sons. I do not know if this is correct.

In other words, there were three different Jeremiah Moles living in Virginia in the same historial timeframe. Jeremiah Moles & Elizabeth Scott were living in Giles County, VA/WV in 1815. They were found living in Logan County, VA/WV in the 1830 Census. They were living in Fayette County, VA/WV in the 1840 Census. Elizabeth died after 1840 in Fayette County; Jeremiah died after 1850. This Jeremiah Moles was born ca 1764 (according to census records), and his place of birth is unknown. Elizabeth was born in Maryland. Any additional information you might have would be appreciated. 1. Marriage records and early William Harrises in northern Patrick County
    2. In previous postings I noted that two William Harrises lived along the headwaters of Smith River in Patrick County in the 1815, suggesting that they were related to each other. One of these William Harrises was born about 1790 and married Elizabeth Hylton in 1814. DNA results shows that he was related to an earlier William Harris who lived in the same area and died before 1790. This deceased William Harris and his wife Sarah had a son named William who, along with Sarah and siblings, signed a deed in 1796. It has generally been assumed that the William who signed the deed was the one who married Elizabeth Hylton, but the latter William would not have been of legal age in 1796. Therefore it appears that there were three generations of William Harris in that family: William I, who married Sarah and died before 1790 William II, his son William III, born about 1790 and married Elizabeth Hylton Little is known about William II, and there is no direct evidence regarding the father of William III. However, because the brothers of William II are either well documented or were married after William III was born, I assume that William III was the son of William II. Further information about the existence and family of William II can be inferred from marriage records, especially from the names of ministers performing ceremonies. Because these Harrises lived in a remote part of the county in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, it can be assumed that they used the services of local ministers. Indeed 17 Harris marriages were performed by two Primitive Baptist ministers, Elder Robert Jones and his son Elder Jesse Jones, who lived near these Harrises. Most of the Harrises married by the Joneses have already been linked to William I or to William III, but the following have not been previously connected to this Harris family: Patsy Harris, dau. of William Harris m. Elkin Pedigo on 20 Sep 1805. Elizabeth Harris, dau. of William Harris m. David Edens on 25 Sep 1813. Who was the William Harris mentioned as the father of Patsy and Elizabeth in their marriage records? William I is not known to have had a daughter named Patsy (or its equivalent, Martha), and his daughter Elizabeth married Samuel Hylton in 1797. William III would have been too young to be the father of daughters married in 1805 or 1813. This means that the father of Patsy and Elizabeth was probably William II. On 28 July 1809 Elder Jesse Jones also married Sarah Tuggle to a William Harris who has not been previously identified. I propose that this was a second marriage for William Harris II.
