Surnames: BOSTON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0AC.2ACE/892 Message Board Post: I am researching an ex-slave named Joseph Boston who was born in Virginia, but achieved a small degree of prominence as a state legislator during Reconstruction in South Carolina. Joseph Boston is my 2G Grandfather. Joseph Boston was born in 1843 and died in 1880. Joseph's mother was named Jane and she was born in Virginia around 1830. Based on the fact that there were several Boston surnamed families in the Orange and Albemarle County areas, I am focusing my research on these areas. The South Carolina history books say that Joseph Boston arrived in Newberry, South Carolina around 1847. Before the Civil War, he was owned by William Daniel Reagin in South Carolina. Presumably, Joseph and Jane moved together to South Carolina since Joseph would have been about 4 and Jane would have been about 17. Has anyone come across any wills, bills of sale, asset schedules or other documents that might refer to slaves owned by any Bostons in Orange or Albemarle County, Virginia between 1830 and 1847? Alternatively, does anyone know of any connection between the Bostons of Virginia and William Daniel Reagin of Newberry, SC? Any leads or other assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
