All I know is that from marriage records in the Rockingham County Court House I found that my great grandfather was listed as William Thomas and he was listed as from Orange County and his parents were Martin and Sarah Thomas. He was age 50 when on Nov 25, 1868 he applied for a license to marry Mary Ann Layman who was 40 at the time. He was listed as a widower and she as single. My name "Wilton" comes from a United Brethren minister by the name of Clyde Wilton Tinsman. I believe my GGFather was previously married and I only know the first wife's name was Frances. Evidently in her final illness Mary Ann went to nurse her and after the death of Frances he and Mary Ann were married and had three children. Thanks for your reply.
