Most of my Scotts seem to have headed south rather than north. I will certainly keep your John in mind as I continue to work on these Southern Scotts. I would sure be interested in any material you might have on Scotts in Orange Co., VA, as I haven't been able to come up with much. Any sign of Haynes/Haines, Blanchetts/Blancetts, Browns, or Martins mentioned in your data? Another Scott researcher says that she has found in DAR material a Wm. Scott, b. 1750 Orange Co., VA, d. 1801 NC, m. first in 1773 a Rebecca (Brown?). This Rebecca died 1806. I descend from another Wm. Scott who was possibly born in Orange Co., VA about 1755; he m. ca. 1778 a dau. of Thomas Ayers of Patrick Co., VA and Surry Co., NC; his Ayers wife was still alive in 1816 when he ga! ve a power of attorney from Wayne Co., KY to collect from the estate of this father-in-law, Thomas Ayers. This Wm. Scott, b. ca. 1755 was the father of another Wm. Scott, b. 1782 NC who moved from Wayne Co., Ky to Bedford Co., TN in 1828, then abt. 1839 to that part of Scott Co., AR that became Yell Co. when it was formed in 1842. This Wm. Scott and his wife Celia Conn probably died in Yell Co. between 1850 and 1860.
