William Lewis Lovely, an immigrant from Dublin, Ireland, was a servant in the home of James Madison's parents before Madison became president. He later became Indian Agent to the Cherokee in Arkansas from 1813-1817. In 1815 he wrote to then President James Madison about his isolated life in Arkansas. Does anyone know a thing about Lovely? Was he a married man with children back when he was a servant in Virginia? Trying to find out something about his earlier life in Virginia (he married Mrs. Persis Brown Goodrich much later in 1807).
