Looking for Pierce Sanford Pierce (birthplace unknown) is believed to have been born around 1764. He appears in the court records of Orange Co., VA around 1779. He sort of materializes out of nowhere. The deeds of Orange County refer several times to Pierce when he had dealings with relatives and others. He did not leave a will but was involved as a witness to other peoples wills and was given administration of at least one estate. His wife's name was Elizabeth Samson (or Sampson). The minute books of Orange County beginning in 1797 show that Pierce was a commissioner of revenue for the lower district (similar to a tax collector) and was paid between 48 to 90 days for his services. He was also one of the overseers of the poor from time-to-time. He also surveyed land and was one of the surveyors of the court-house site no probate records for Pierce have been found and so it is assumed that he died without leaving a will. He and Elizabeth had nine children. . .one of which was Reuben Sanford b. ca. 1780! . This Reuben is our line! Other children of Pierce were: Sally, Peggy, Steward, Mima, James Hamlet, Harriet and Lawrence. Our Reubin married Nancy Wallace in Orange County, VA. They had 7 children there. One of these was our line, Charles Brooken. Reuben and Nancy moved to Mason County, KY. Reuben apparently followed there his brother Hamlet and they, in turn were followed by brother Lawrence who first appeared on deed records there in 1822 and 1824. Any Information on Pierce would be appraciated
