Thomas BELL, who married Elizabeth Lee TAYLOR, dau. of Zachary TAYLOR Sr. and Elizabeth ( LEE ) JONES. Capt. BELL is prob. the son of Rev. John BELL, of Northum'd, Co., Va., who married Elizabeth JONES. Elizabeth was the daughter of Leanna/Lee Hannah LEE, dau. of Charles LEE Sr. ( 1656-1701 ) of " Cobbs Hall " Northum'd., and Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas MEDSTAND. Charles was the youngest son of Col. Richard LEE Sr.. Col. Richard LEE bap. St. Martin, Worcester, Eng., 22 Mar. 1617/8, and in Dividing Creeks, Northum'd., about Apr. 1664, will dated 06 Feb. 1663/4, proved in Va. and England in 1664. He was the son of John LEE/LYES/LIES/LEA, who was buried in St. Martin's Parish 23 Feb. 1629/30, and Jane, dau. of Edward and Alice ( JEFFRYS ) HANCOCK, of Twining, Glousestershire, England. Jane ( HANCOCK ) LEE married again on 29 July 1632, St. Martin's Parish, to John MANINGE/MANNING, he died in 1633. Jane was buried 24 Feb. 1638/9, St. Albam, Worcester, Eng., will dated 1635, probated 1639, mentions sons, John, Richard and Thomas, her bro. Thomas HANCOCK as etx. assisted by my brother's Richard LYES ( John's bro. ), Walter HEMING ( Rich. LYES bro-in-law ) and Thomas SAVAGE ( Jane's sis. Mary's husband ). Col. Richard LEE Sr., married in Jamestown, 1641, to Ann(a), dau. of Francis CONSTABLE, deceased. Charles LEE Sr.'s daughter, Leanna ( Lee Hannah ), was married about 1705-6, to Capt. William JONES Jr., son of William JONES Sr. ( also a Capt. ), who died by Mar. 1710, aged abt. 60 yrs., and 1st. wife, ???? dau. of James JOHNSON. William was the Robert JONES, will date 14 Mar. 1675/6, probated 1 Mar. 1675/6, Northum'd. Co., mentions sons, William, Samuel, Robert, and Maurice, cozen's ( newhews ) John son of Thomas JONES, and Richard HUES/HEWES/HUGHES, etx. wife Martha, loving friends Mr. Thom. HAYNES and Mr. Geo. FLOW-- ( FLOWERS ). There was also a dau. Mary who married Geo. WALE, who rec. her dau. part of the estate of Robt. JONES Sr, deed date 21 Aug. 1678, possible other daughters as well. In a deed William IRONMONGER calls him brother-in-law, I think Robert may have married twice or is related to this family. Capt. John JONES, son of Swan(n), son of Maurice/Morris and Judith SWANN JONES ( youngest son of Robert above ) and Elizabeth ( 1709-50 ), dau. of Hancock LEE Sr. ( ca. 1653- 1709 ), son of Col Richard and Ann LEE Sr., and 2nd. wife Sarah, dau. of Isaac Jr. and 2nd. wife Elizabeth WILLOUGHBY ALLERTON. Capt. John JONES' will witn. by James BELL and Eliz. TAYLOR ( his mother ), memtions two children underage, ' my loving sister Eliz. Taylor ', etxc.' Loving wife, Mary Jones ' and her two brother's Maj. John BELL and Mr. Thomas BELL of Pr. Wm. Co., and Mr. Zachary TAYLOR of Orange Co. Mary ( BELL ) JONES m. again by 1749 to Zachiah BURNELY. 2) JONES, Charles, b. 17 Jul. 1710, d. bef. 09 Jan. 1738, m. ca. 1736 Elizabeth, dau. of Samuel HEATH, had Mary JONES ( in grandfather's will ) who m. Walter JAMESON, atty.. 3) JONES, Jemima, b. 26 Jul. 1720, must have died young, not in any deeds or wills. 4) JONES, William III, b. 12 May 1723, d. after 1749, m. Mary ???, had Charles, possibly more?? 5) JONES, Leanna m. after 1740 to Charles LEE III, son of Charles and Elizabeth PINKCARD LEE, no living chilren, wd 24 Jan. 1761, pr. 10 Aug. 1761 Northum'd Co., son-in-law Charles LEE ( IV, her stepson ), late son Thomas LEE, ca 1745-1760, sister Ann COTTRELL, newhews Charles JONES, James BELL, Charles BELL, Thomas BELL, neice Mary BURNEY, cousin Margret BOY'D, Thomas COTTRELL, Ann's husband and her son William NELMS, Samuel Heath JAMESON, Mr. David BOYD, her attny., etx. Charles BELL, Charles JONES, and James BELL. 6) JONES, Ann, m. William NELMS, his 2nd. wife, his wd 21 Jun. 1751 Norhtum'd., they hand William NELMS, m. 2nd. to Thomas COTTRELL, had Sarah who m. William, son William and Winifred ( NELMS ) DOWNING, and Ann COTTRELL, possibly others. Capt. William JONES Jr.'s will dated 25 Nov. 1740, proved Northum'd, 11 May 1741, mentions wife Leanna JONES, daus. Eliabeth BELL, Leanna JONES, Sarah JONES ( no info.?? ), son William, gr-dau. Ann JONES, and Rev. John BELL. Leanna LEE JONES wd. 25 Feb. 1750, no probate, can't find will, but dau. Leanne JONES and grandson William NELMS were mentioned. As you know Elizabeth ( LEE/JONES ) TAYLOR m. Zachary, mentioned in wills are sons Hancock, Richard, Zachary TAYLOR an dau. Elizabeth, her husband Thomas BELL. There are possibly more children, Meade's Old Churches states that Zachary and Elizabeth had 7 sons and three daughters. I don't see that is possible if they were married about 10 years or so. Elizabeth was a twin and that runs in the family, so many a set or two of twins, but she was about 48 to 49 years old when she died. No wonder she died young, also maybe Meade was refering to John JONES as well?? Major John LEE, who died in Woodford Ky, 1802, married Elizabeth BELL. They moved from Orange Co. with Margaret BELL, Eliz.'s sister by 1792. They appointed James BELL, of Orange, as their attorney to convey the tract of land to William NORRIS, of Fauquier Co., as " children of the late Thomas BELL, dec'd, of Orange ". Their grand daughter married as her 2nd. husband, Hon. Richard Henry LEE, as his 2nd. wife. Richard H. and Anne ( GASKINS/PINCKARD ) LEE had Sarah " Sallie " LEE who married her 3rd. cousin, Edmund Jennings LEE Sr., son of Henry Jr.( II ) and Lucy GRYMES LEE. Someone posted Gen. Robert E. LEE, it was missing a line. His line is this, Richard Sr. ( CONSTABLE ) LEE, to Richard Jr. ( II, CORBIN ) LEE, to Henry Sr. ( BLAND ) LEE, to Henry Jr. ( II, GRYMES ), to Henry III " Light Horse Harry " ( 2nd. wife CARTER ) LEE, to Gen. Lee. Also has anyone one found the will of Zachary TAYLOR Sr.??? If so could you point me in the right place, thank you.
