He was born in Orange Courthouse, VA in 1843/4 to Robert and ???Mary Gray???. At the beginning of the Civil War his father and brother left home to join Lee' Army???. His mother died in 1862 and he did not want to fight in the War so he went to Washington DC and worked in a Cemetery. In 1864 he joined the Marine Corps and spent the next 4 years aboard ship. When he went back to Orange Courthouse in 1868 he never found anyone from his family. He went back to DC and joined to Corps fpr another 4 years. After this discharge he found his way to Pittsburgh. I know there isn't much to go on but that is all I got. I hope this sounds familiar to some one.
