    1. Need a Records Lookup and Possibly Copies (records from 1740's)

    3. I am interested in getting confirmation on some records from Orange County in 1740 and 1744. They concern the Kennedy family of John and Capt. Joseph Kennedy who lived in Augusta County, but records for them were in Orange County before 1745. I am needing to get either a copy of the page or confirmation of the wording from the court records of March 1740. I am told that in the March 1740 court records of Orange County that Capt. Joseph Kennedy came into court and under the headright system asked for land for his children and for John Kennedy. I need to know exactly what the record states and if it named Joseph's children that sailed with him. Another record I need a copy of is the will of John Kennedy from 1 April 1740. It is supposed to be found in Will Book One page 266. I have most of the wording of the will and was wanting a copy of the will for my records. Also am needing a copy of his estate settlement or appraisal that is in Will Book One on page 330. I will gladly pay for the copy charges incurred in this. I always try the boards first before writing the area. I have found that all of us who frequent these boards are usually very good at helping each other out. Thanks in advance for any help. Rick Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

    2. Rick, You may be able to get the records you are looking for on microfilm through interlibrary loan from the Library of Virginia. Go to: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/local_rec/county_city/orange.htm to see a list of the microfilm available. ILL indicates it is available for lending. Instructions for your library to order are at: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwedo/ill/index.htm This is probably your best bet as almost all the old records have been moved from the courthouse in Orange to the Library of Virginia. A Family History Center is also a good place to look for the microfilm.
