    1. Zion Baptist Church
    2. marsha moses
    3. I have a small pamphlet that I received from the Zion Baptist Church in Orange County, Virginia which was founded in 1813. It is a very short history of the founding of the church. I am interested in identifying as many of the men that are named as being present at the first meeting: About three and one half miles south of Orange in the home of Brother Hawkins with James Arnold, Roger Mallory, Nicolas Bickers, Joseph Atkins, James Perry, Killie Hoard, Benjamin Hawkins, Hamlet Sanford, John Rogers, William Bell, William Mallory, William Hancock, William Embry, Coleman Marshall, Henry Perry, John Churchhill Gordon, and Thomas Hawkins. Rev A. Waller preached the first sermon. Thanks for any help that you can give me. Marsha in WV

    1. Lond Distance Assistance Request
    2. Greetings to all. I am in Florida and new to your list. I need help regarding resources in your County. Does your local vital statistics info back that far and IF SO, what is the best place to find it? Is there a library that will provide Lookup assistance? Is there a newspaper in your area that might have OBITS archived? I am seeking assistance regarding my ggg grandparents: George H. Padgett; (b abt 1809 in VA; d Sep 1866 Orange C.H. Va.) AND Anner (nee?; b abt.1808 - d abt 1845). I don't know where they were married or buried. George married Anner abt 1828 and they had two daughters: Martha b abt 1830, and Lucretia b abt 1837. If ANY of the above sounds familiar, I'd like to hear from you. My goals: 1. George died in Orange C.H., so I'm hoping that some good hearted soul has a book or other resource that may list George and Anner's death info or marriage info. 2. Find their burial locations. 3. Find Anner's vital information; surname, birth, death, marriage date and location and burial locations. I appreciate ANY assistance you can provide. Warmest regards, Dottie Ormond Beach, FL

Surnames: Young, Proctor, Herndon Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0AC.2ACE/883 Message Board Post: My 3rd Great-grandmother was Ann H. Young born Orange Co., 1815 and m. William Proctor (b. 1815) in 1842. Their first child James Malcolm was b. 1845 in Madison Co., VA. All birth info from their tombstones in Holmes Co., MS. We think that other siblings of Ann's came to Holmes Co. also - Lucy J.Young who m. William Herndon in Orange Co., Walter W., Emily F. (married Julius Mayo in MS) and possibly George E. The wills of these people strongly suggest a sibling relationship, but it is not spelled out specifically. Does anyone have more information on this Young family, especially Ann? I would like to know her middle name - what H. stands for. Each daughter consistantly used middle initials. Thanks, Betty

Her father was James Spencer Campbell who had a farm that he left to his daughter Ursula and this farm/land about 20 acres was said to be part of Orange County, about 1 mile east of Unionville, adjoining the lands of R.B. Harris, John W. Swain, John W. Clarke and others. DO you by any chance have an idea where John W. Clarke was living at? I am trying to get an idea of where this land is located. Hope to hear back from you!

    1. Thomas McClanahan and Margaret Strother
    2. marsha moses
    3. Hi, Tracy and Nancy. I just sent Nancy a private message....but since there looks to be others interested in what I was saying....I'll add it here for the whole list. I have been looking at the will of Moses Hawkins in the last few weeks because I believe that my dad's DNA match may be descended from Moses. Moses was killed at the battle of Germantown in the Revolution. He left a will so there is some information about his family. His wife was Susannah Strother. The Executrix were William Strother (I believe him to be Susannah's father) and Frances Moore, Jr (I believe him to be husband to Moses's sister Lucy Hawkins Moore). Susannah marries Thomas Coleman and the family moves to KY.....so I am wondering if this is not the Coleman's that you are interested in.....Three of Moses's sons married Bourne sisters. And, Traci, since you are interested in slave records I will post the below: Sep 27 1770 I have an abstract. I have viewed the orginal. I think that it says that Benjamin Hawkins gave Frances Moore a Negro named Peter and 50 pounds cash and recieved a female Negro and household goods that were France's wife, Lucy's, portion. (Lucy seems to have been Benjamin's daughter) But I can't quite figure out ....portion of what? William Hawkins is one of the witnesses as is John Willis and J. Branham. Benjamin had requested that it be recorded. My best guess is that it was a way for Frances to raise some money that he needed...perhaps? Benjamin Hawkins's wife was Sarah Willis Hawkins so the John Willis is likely to have been a brother. Benjamin has a son named William....so William Hawkins is likely to have been a brother to Lucy Hawkins Moore. Again, these are not my ancestors as far as I can tell....so my understanding is a little more limited than if I were studying them more in depth.
