Thank you Harriet. I had checked that out at one time. My biggest problem is that right now I am disabled and also am the caregiver for my elderly mother. With that I don't get to travel much or get out to the library or archives much. I have used interlibrary loan in the past, but at this point in my life and the demands of caring for Mom, I just never know when I would be able to get to the library to view the film. It is not always the case but sometimes there are people from a certain area that are members of the boards or lists. I know I try to do that for people looking for things in the Maury County area. I just have to tell them I will get it when I can get out. After I got your e-mail I did go ahead and write the library via e-mail. A lady there is going to get back with me on the costs of getting copies. It is usually more expensive that way, but at this point in my life cost factors are outweighed by availability. Thanks so much for your reply and the information. Rick, You may be able to get the records you are looking for on microfilm through interlibrary loan from the Library of Virginia. Go to: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/local_rec/county_city/orange.htm to see a list of the microfilm available. ILL indicates it is available for lending. Instructions for your library to order are at: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwedo/ill/index.htm This is probably your best bet as almost all the old records have been moved from the courthouse in Orange to the Library of Virginia. A Family History Center is also a good place to look for the microfilm. I am interested in getting confirmation on some records from Orange County in 1740 and 1744. They concern the Kennedy family of John and Capt. Joseph Kennedy who lived in Augusta County, but records for them were in Orange County before 1745. I am needing to get either a copy of the page or confirmation of the wording from the court records of March 1740. I am told that in the March 1740 court records of Orange County that Capt. Joseph Kennedy came into court and under the headright system asked for land for his children and for John Kennedy. I need to know exactly what the record states and if it named Joseph's children that sailed with him. Another record I need a copy of is the will of John Kennedy from 1 April 1740. It is supposed to be found in Will Book One page 266. I have most of the wording of the will and was wanting a copy of the will for my records. Also am needing a copy of his estate settlement or appraisal that is in Will Book One on page 330. I will gladly pay for the copy charges incurred in this. I always try the boards first before writing the area. I have found that all of us who frequent these boards are usually very good at helping each other out. Thanks in advance for any help. Rick Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

I have recently done some research on Augusta County ancestors, west of Orange County across the Blue Ridge, and found that Augusta County records were kept in Orange County until Augusta was organized. I believe the date of Augusta formation was around 1738, but records were kept in Orange until about 1745. If someone shows up in Orange County records around that time, but then seems to disappear, it might be because they actually resided in Augusta County.

Marsha, Thank you for responding. I have a Marshall family that married into my Davis family in Virginia. I have John H. Marshall marrying Julia Baugher. They had a son Charles Henry Marshall born in 1862. Then I have the Leonard Davis who married Mary Wilson Marshall and had a daughter Susannah Marshall with whom he is living. I will keep a copy of your email with my Davis/Marshall info and if I do run across anything, I will be happy to let you know. By the way, what part of WV are you located? I am in Elkins, WV.
