    1. Will of Nicholas Bickers/Coleman Marshall
    2. marsha moses
    3. I had save the an abstract of the will of Nicholas Bickers from some trip to a library at some point even though I didn't understand it at the time. Well, now I do understand it, and I have a few questions to ask in hopes that someone can tell me about the Marshall family. Will of Nicholas Bickers....having already given to my son (someone wrote in the margin in blue ink, Joel) his full share of my estate, I give and devise to him the sum of twenty five cents only....to my beloved wife, Jane....all the estate of which I may die possessed except for two feather beds and their furniture and two cows and calves....to my sons, Moses and William, each a feather bed and furniture and a cow and a calf...to my son Benjamin C. at the death of my wife, the land on which he resides, containing by survey made by Reuben Lindsay, seventy acres...I lend to my daughter, Joanna Marshall...to daughter, Polly Hawkins, being well off and having no children and my other children being all poor...one dollar only...I give to my son Joel, ....appoint my friends John Taylor and William Quarles, executors...this 17th day of March 1825.... At a court held.....27th June 1836....proved....on motion of Coleman Marshall (who married a daughter of the testator)....with Benjamin Hawkins and John Payne, .... Ok what I now know is that Benjamin Hawkins was the uncle to my Thomas R. Hawkins...Benjamin is involved with many land dealings and his wife is always names as Mary or Polly. So this man that Nicholas Bickers refers to as being rich is Thomas's uncle. When Benjamin dies, he leaves all of his land to his NEPHEW Thomas R. Hawkins....so it seems to support the information above that Benjamin and Mary/Polly were childless. I have thought that Coleman Marshall was married to a Hawkins because he appears in so many of their dealings. And he is one of the men present in Brother Hawkins's home when the Zion Baptist Church was formed: > > About three and one half miles south of Orange in the home of Brother > Hawkins, with James Arnold, Roger Mallory, Nicolas Bickers, Joseph > Atkins (clerk), James Perry (deacon), Killie Hoard, Benjamin Hawkins, > Hamlet Sanford, John Rogers (deacon), William Bell, William Mallory, > William Hancock, William Embry, Coleman Marshall (deacon), Henry > Perry, John Churchill Gordon (pastor), and Thomas Hawkins, seventeen > in all But here it is clearly stated that Coleman Marshall had married Nicholas Bickers's daughter. So Coleman Marshall was a brother-in-law to Benjamin Hawkins. Can anyone fill in anymore facts about Coleman Marshall? I keep thinking that there may be some clue to the Marshall family as to where my name comes from.....Thomas R. Hawkins has a grandson named Jesse Marshall Hawkins. The Jesse comes from my gr-grandfather's mother's side of the family....perhaps the Marshall does too....But my dad was named after Jesse Marshall and goes by Marshall ....and I am the female version: Marsha

Surnames: Nash, Hardwick, Long Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0AC.2ACE/909 Message Board Post: Re: William Nash, I, II, of III of Colonial Virginia... Research by Mr. Ron Jones, Mr. McPhearson and COL Al Metts suggests that Wm Nash who arrived in Virginia on the ship Globe in 1635 and who eventually settled in Northumberland County, Va, in the southern part of the county that eventually became part of Lancaster County, VA.... As I understand the theory, this William "I" married an Ann Hopkins and had children Thomas, William and John.... and then sometime after William I's death, his son William "II" chose William Edmonds as his guardian (and his mother Ann Nash remarried to a Mr. John Meridith). William Nash II was later closely associated with Elias Edmonds' son William Edmonds who in turn was given responsibility for seeing to the education of William Nash II's only son William Nash III's educatation (per Wm Nash's 1697 LW&T, probated in 1700).... Now if William Nash "III" was of educatable age in 1697, when his father william made out the will, then William III was probably born sometime between 1680 and 1697.... Now if William Nash "III" was born in the earlier range of this 17 year span, then he could be the William Nash (married to an Anne ----) who sold Nash Mill an Carrotomen Branch, Lancaster county in 1709... However if not, then this William Nash owner of Nash Mill is yet another William Nash (not either William "II" or "III") that may or not be part of the direct line discussed here.... and then there is an Amey Nash whose 1708 LW & T (recorded in 1710 in Lancaster County) is witnessed by Elias Edmonds and Xxxx Kirk, and names children Mary, Rebecca, Elizabeth, and William Nash.... I know that some researcher's theorize that this is Amey Edmonds who married William Nash "II", and to my mind this could be Amey Nash wife of William Nash "II" who died sometime during the years 1697-1700 but there is no proof. However, my main question involves proving the link between the above mentioned William III of Lancaster County and and the William Nash who was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Hardwick and who apparently is the William Nash who in the late 1730s sold land in Lancaster County and aquired land on the forks of the Rappahonak River (Spelling?) in Orange County, VA in the ... an area that later became part of Cullpepper County..... The question is whether William Nash III is the same as the William Nash who later settled in Orange/ Cullpepper County, VA or perhaps his father..... or another William Nash not in direct line of the Orange County/Culpepper County Nash (and there are documents that might suggest this).... I'm interested in comparing / discussing the identified primary documentation with other Nash researchers of this family to possibly sort this out. Note that the the Culpepper county, VA, William Nash's children married into the Long, Hardwick, Saunders, Thornhill, Robertson families.... Colonial American William Nash and Betty Hardwick Nash family (their estate records available from VA Archives naming all their children: James Nash, John Nash, William Nash (Who married a Miss Morgan and was father of Ira Nash of Nashville, Missouri), Elijah, Ann Nash-Saunders, Elizabeth Nash-Thornhill, Leanna Nash Thornhill, and Mary Nash-Robertson).... Please post responce to this Nash message board at Rootsweb.com -- Len (I'm descended from the Colonial Culppepper County Wm and Betty Nash thru their son John Nash who moved to SC after the American Revolution , thru John's son Ezekiel Nash who moved to Mississippi in 1810s... and Ezekiel's son Ira Norris Nash who was my g.g.g.grandfather) Note: I'll will be changing E-mail to Lenrein@aol.com Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print

    1. Looking for Rose Marie.....
    2. Patricia A. Baber
    3. Greetings, I am trying to help a friend locate a long-lost cousin. Rose Marie Buck was born about 1947 in a Charlottesville Hospital. She was living with a foster-family in the early 1950's in Louisa county. She was taken to a new home by a Mrs. Potts to Orange county in the early 50's. It is possible Rose Marie married someone with the last name Vernon and may have worked at the Willow Grove Plantation. She has sisters who would love to know her. If you know anything about Rose Marie please contact me and I will put you in touch with her family. Pat Baber Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:4 -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. If you know or find out anymore concerning John Spencer I would appreciate the information. The wife (my gggggm) of my gggggf was named Mary (maiden name unknown) and one of their sons was John Spencer Alverson. A couple of generations later, a daughter was named Mary Spencer Alverson which has led some of us to speculate that the maiden name of this Mary may well have been Spencer (they did a lot of name recycling). I don't have a birth date for Mary, but from her first child it may well have been in the neighborhood of 1735 which might make her a sister of this John Spencer. Although Becknell and Mary settled and died in Louisa County, there are records of Becknell in Orange County.
