    3. Posted on: Orange Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Va/Orange/272 Surname: HENDERSON, BROCKMAN, BELL, WHITE ------------------------- I also claim John Henderson (d. c.1783)and Sarah Brockman (d. c.1796)of Orange County as ancestors. I believe Sarah's parents were Samuel Brockman and Mary Bell. Would like any more info on these and also on parents of John Henderson. If I am correct, I descend from John & Sarah's daughter Susannah Henderson, who married John White (d. 1817)of Louisa County. I'm also looking for help on the White family; I have many notes and probable dates/names, but the William and John Whites are numerous and hard to prove beyond doubt! The wills of John and Sarah Henderson (Orange County WB3, p. 63 and 372 respectively,) do confirm daughter Sarah married Thurman, but I have no more on Thurman family. Have you seen the book "Orange County Virginia Families" -? I refer to Vol. 4, by William Everett Brockman. It was printed in 1965 by offset process, by United Mailing Corp., Minneapolis.

Her father, John Page was from Orange County, VA and prob Elizabeth was born there before they moved to KY. The Gooches, Pages, Warmoths all seem to have followed the same path, VA, KY, MO. Gideon was born about 1779 according to census. He had maybe 6 children, and one was named Nathan. Would like to know more. Thanks. Sharon

    2. Barbara Leak
    3. Posted on: Orange Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Orange/261 Surname: BROCKMAN, COLLINS, HENDERSON, MADISON, ROBINSON ------------------------- The Brockmans are a complicated family, but I offer the following information: Sarah BROCKMAN who married John HENDERSON circa 1732 was the daughter of Samuel and Mary BROCKMAN. Samuel's will was probated in Orange Co., VA, in 1766 (Will Book 2, pp. 371-374). It has been speculated that he was the son of Henry BROCKMAN and Rebecca SALMON of Maryland, but I don't think this has ever been proven. Samuel BROCKMAN's wife Mary, who died in 1776, was probably Mary COLLINS, not Mary MADISON. Her parents were Joseph COLLINS and Catherine ROBINSON. The Brockmans lived near the Madison family in Orange Co., VA. Samuel BROCKMAN was witness to the will of Ambrose MADISON, grandfather of President James MADISON. Samuel BROCKMAN's will was witnessed by James MADISON, probably the president's father.

    1. [VAORANGE] BOWENs
    2. Kathleen Bowen
    3. Hi List, I am reviewing many BOWEN-related e-mails I have collected over the past few months. I am wayyy behind in my gen-research and correspondence and I am even reviewing messages, to this list as well as directly to me, back to December 1999.... My 4g-grandfather is probably one John Bowen, b. abt. 1790, d. 1870, m. Margaret Marshall (I say probably because a couple of other researchers provided him as a father to my 3g-grandfather, James Bowen. I have some reliable information on James but nothing definite for John yet). I have 2 sons for John and Margaret: James and Joseph. There may well be more, but I only have these two for now. I have been trying to figure out how my Bowen ancestors ended up in Culpeper Co. and how (and if) they were related to other Bowen lines in that area. I have some notes that I received last year from a somewhat distant cousin who still lives in VA. She had collected notes and stories from many of her Bowen family members. Some of the information had been passed down for a couple of generations, then relayed to her by folks that have since passed away - so we can't go back and ask them to try to recall more details. One item was interesting as it relayed that, "...A Major Bowen came here during the War between the States, he was a son of James Bowen's brother, He gave aunt Tie (Vashti, granddaughter of James Bowen) a gold ring..." I have found one Major Bowen that was in Culpeper Co. during the Civil War: Major Edward R. Bowen, commander of the 114th PA Vols., mustered in the Philadelphia environs (including Chester Co.) I found some journal entries he made while he was headquartered in Brandy Station, Culpeper Co., VA in Dec 1863. My father's line are all from Brandy Station or nearby! As I read a message I saved posted to the Melungeon Mailing List (which I received as a "PML" message from Rootsweb - if anyone sponsors Rootsweb at the $24/year level or more, you can have your own "Personalized Mailing List" and receive copies of all posts to Rootsweb mail lists, boards, RSL, etc by any keywords, such as surnames or placenames, that you choose!) on Jan. 1, 2000, I am struck that these Bowens are in PA and Va, and see that Nancy and Agnes were both born in Orange Co. in 1729, before Culpeper Co. was carved out (1749): "This is my Bowen line. 2. ann park
    3. I have documented that William Crowder (1734) served in the Rev. War in Va. I have his two wives; Phoebe Elder and Lucy Thompson and their children from both marriages. One son William Barlow was born in 1789 & married Elizabeth Wise (b. 1793, Scranton, PA.) I am searching for the names of their children. I need a "James" who married a Grizzian to put in this line. If anyone might help me put this together, I would be ever so grateful. Wm. Barlow Crowder and Eliz. Wise had nine children. One child was James (b. 1810), but I have been told that he was not the one who married Grizzian. Then Wm. Barlow Crowder & Eliz. had another son, Daniel, who later married and had a son James. I have not found proof of this. I'm looking for this too. I will happy to share any information that I have Ann Park __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! The "HYDEN" referred to was M. W. "HIDEN" (Martha Woodroof Hiden). Her article in Tyler's Quarterly (1943) was a collection of fragments, and has taken over 50 years to unscramble. Biggest headache: The ASSUMPTION that Hydens and Haydens were one and the same. Many people still quote her assumptions as "gospel". (They are not) Our interest lies long before her time, and focused on Orange County.
