Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Orange/10555 Surname: DAVIDSON, DAVISON ------------------------- Noticed your Davison-Brown connection with interest. My John and Ann Davison were living in Spotsylvania Co, VA (part that became Orange Co, VA) in 1725 when they bought land from James Taylor. In 1742, my Davisons moved to Amelia Co, VA (part that became Prince Edward Co, VA). In Prince Edward Co, my John Davison appeared to have a special relationship with William and Elizabeth Brown. I have not been able to determine what that relationship was or where the Browns were from, although I suspect they were from the Orange Co, VA area. Please let me know of any Brown-Davison info you uncover.

    3. Posted on: Orange Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Orange/10554 Surname: DAVIDSON, DAVISON ------------------------- My John and Ann Davison (often spelled as Davidson by second parties) purchased 100 acres of land from James Taylor of K&Q Co, VA on 6-July-1725. At the time, my Davisons lived in the part of Sposylvania that became Orange Co (near the present town of Orange). Also, a William Davison lived in the vicinity. Relationship to my John, if any, is not known -- although from examining records, William appears to be much older than my John. John and Ann Davison named their first son William. In 1742, John and Ann Davison sold their Orange County land and moved to Amelia Co, VA (part that became Prince Edward Co). John and Ann Davison had following children, with estimated birth year - probably plus or minus a year or two, as named in order of John's 1754 Will: William b: c1726 Married a Sarah Bowman and he died in Prince Edward Co, VA. Richard b: c1728 Married a Mary (family name unk although some claim Ewing, there is no documentation to support that notion) he died in Prince Edward Co, VA. Widow Mary and decendants moved to Fayette Co, KY. Joshua b: c1730 Married Sarah "Sally" Owen and he died in Prince Edward Co, VA. Decendants mostly moved to Fleming and Mason Co, KY and to Maury Co, TN. Daniel b: c1732 Married a Nancy (family name unk) moved to Anson Co, NC and was there around 1800. Elizabeth b: c1734 Married James Atkins in 1756 and she later moved to Anson/Montgomery Co, NC. George b: c1736 Married 2d Brazilian Atkins and moved to Anson/Montgomery Co, NC. Ambrose b: c1738 Apparently married dau of Robert Atkins (her first name unk) and he moved to Anson/Montgomery Co, NC. Atkins wife was deceased before 1777 when Robert Atkins made out his will. Am particularly interested in tracing my John and Ann Davison back beyond the 1725 facts. There is so much misinformation on the internet, that I have gone back to the "basics" of research based on factual records. But, lack of early records in Virginia for the "burned" counties are hampering progress.

    2. Carol Laing
    3. For those who are interested in visiting an Atkins Grave site at the base of the Shenandoah National Park (unsure at this time, whether it is a part of the Park, but I believe so). The walk is short and close to the road. Wayne Baldwin, a genealogist of 20 years or so has agreed to take us there. He says the gravesite is huge. We will meet at the Faith Mountain Outlet in Sperryville, VA at 10 a.m. on May 1, 2001. It's not very far from there. Wayne will be driving a white jeep with license plates, which read "Kinseeker". All who are interested may attend. Bring water, a snack if desired and wear good walking shoes. It seems your family search is caught (as many of us are) in changing county boundaries. Orange was created out of Spotsylvania, which in turn was created in 1721. Prior to that, you would need to look in King William or King & Queen County, or possibly Essex. Patti in VA

I THINK WE WILL HAVE TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION, BUT NO SURE HOW TO PROCEED. ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS OR ARE THERE ANY ATTORNEYS AMONGST US WHO COULD ADVISE US? MEANTIME, MAYBE CALLING WILL AT LEAST LET THEM KNOW WE ARE OUT HERE. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WORK OR NOT THOUGH, BECAUSE THEY HAVE A HISTORY OF BEING SO EVASIVE. A LINK ABOUT THIS WAS JUST REMOVED FROM THE WASHINGTON POST FROM LAST YEAR, AND NOTHING STILL HAS BEEN DONE. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO RETRIEVE THAT ARTICLE, OR JUST MAY CONTACT WAHINGTON POST PERSONALLY. THEY WROTE AN ARTICLE AND THE PARK JUST GAVE THEM A BIG RUN AROUND. 3. Today I called the Shen Nat Park Headquarters to inquire about the archives being available. I was told they are "being moved to another building" and "a nicer air conditioned building". She had no idea when this was happening, and would not say for sure where they were being moved. We need to rise up and protest!!! Is anyone interested in demonstrating at the park's entrances this year? Would that be legal, dunno? Sure would fix them though, wouldn't it. If we gave out information about how we were being denied the right to our own ancestors records, and the park has held them up for how many years now. We have got to do something, this has been going on for years and who knows where our records will go next?!! Someplace else, God only knows where. Has anyone filed a Freedom Of Information Complaint? I may do that. Please, anyone else who is interested, contact me!!! Carol Carol Laing [email protected] Carol Laing [email protected]

    3. Posted on: Orange Co. Va Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Orange/10546 Surname: Herring ------------------------- Hello, I am George W. Herring's great granddaughter. George was my Grandmother's father. My grandmother was Pearl Norvelle Herring Cajigas. (She was married to Dr. Mariano Cajigas.) I have a newspaper clipping of George's obituary. He was a native of Orange County, though I don't know exactly where he was born. He was, as you said, the son of Franklin Towles and Ammorious Butler Herring. He spent the earlier part of his life in Stafford County where he was in the merchandise business at Widewater from 1898 to 1912. In 1900, he married Pearl N. Norvelle. (Yes, my grandmother was named after her mother. With nine children, I guess they ran out of names.) Anyway, George married Pearl N. Norvelle in 1900. As you said, they had 9 children. "Booker" (and I heard my grandmother refer to him as "Bookie") was actually born with the name Norvelle Franklin Herring. He lived in Woodbridge. And finally, he was laid to rest in Graham Cemetery, Orange. Did you know he was a member of the General Assembly, ran for a Senate seat, served as clerk of the Circuit Court in Stafford County, AND was an organizer of the Bank of Quantico (of which he was president of for 3 years and a member of the board of directors)? Quite the busy bee. Well, if you have any other questions, comments or information you can email me at [email protected] You said your husband's grandfather was George W. Herring. Who was his father?
