William listed his birthplace as Orange County when applying for marriage license on Nov 25, 1868. This was his second marriage and he was 50 at the time. Also interested in Samuel L. and Edna Thomas who migrated to Page County. Any info would be a great help.
Subject: [CircleYahoo] Reminder PBS to air : "In the Light of Reverence" Native American religious freedom & cultural preservation to be aired on PBS Tuesday, Auggust 14, 2001 From: Christopher (Toby) McLeod, Sacred Land Film Project E-mail: [email protected] ---> alias: [email protected] Greetings! Don't miss the national PBS broadcast of IN THE LIGHT OF REVERENCE, the award-winning documentary film on Native Americans, religious freedom and environmental protection, on Tuesday, August 14 at 10:00 pm (check local listings), on P.O.V., the independent documentary series. About the Film Narrated by Peter Coyote and Tantoo Cardinal, "In the Light of Reverence" is a 72-minute documentary on Native American struggles to protect landscapes of spiritual significance. The film tells the stories of three communities and places they care for: the Lakota at Devils Tower in Wyoming, the Hopi in the Four Corners area of the Southwest, and the Wintu at Mt. Shasta in California. These are all places of extraordinary beauty, and impassioned controversy-as Indians and non-Indians struggle to co-exist with very different ideas about how the land should be used. For American Indians, the land is sacred and akin to the world's greatest cathedrals. For others, the land should be used for industry and recreation. "In the Light of Reverence" explores these issues from both sides of the debate by giving voice to the diverse people who utilize sacred places. Robert Redford says of "In the Light of Reverence", "This beautifully-crafted film is a wake-up call for everyone who cares about the environment and human rights." "In the Light of Reverence" is a presentation of the Independent Television Service in association with Native American Public Telecommunications with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. About the Producers "In the Light of Reverence" is produced and directed by Christopher (Toby) McLeod, who has produced three award winning, hour-long documentaries, all broadcast on national television: "The Four Corners: A National Sacrifice Area?," "Downwind/Downstream," and "Poison in the Rockies." He worked ten years on "In the Light of Reverence," which won the Best Documentary Feature Award at the American Indian Film Festival, and a Jury Award at Telluride Mountain film. Co-producer Malinda Maynor is a Lumbee Indian from North Carolina, and has made several award-winning films, "Real Indian" and "Sounds of Faith," about her Lumbee heritage. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in American History at UNC Chapel Hill and is Coordinator of the Lumbee River Fund, a project dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Robeson County's Indian communities. I understand that at one time there was an estate in Orange Co. that was named Inverness and owned by a family by the name of Cameron. I heard that several years ago the house burned. Does anyone know if the name of the estate has any relation to Inverness, Scotland? Thanks for your help. Yvonne

Hi Everyone, I have file of a scanned copy of a picture of the Nethers store across from the Mill off the Hughes River in Rappahannock Co., near the Culpeper and Madison Co. lines. It has the following people sitting on the proch numbered and identified (as well as a quote by one Billy Kilby): 1. Moochie Jenkins 2. Jessie Jenkins (Big Jess) 3. John Sisk 4. Millard or May Johnson 5. John Henry Lillard 6. Ernest Dodson 7. Dorothy Jenkins 8. Ruth Hudson I don't have the name of the source of the photo, quote and names, so I am not sure if it from an individual's file ro from a publication, therefore, I will not post it to my website. I don't know the date of the photo or the quote. My guess is 1930s give or take a decade or so :-) If you would like more info, write me directly - NOT to the list from which you have received this message. Thanks! Their daughter Sarah Ella Woodson is my grandmother. She married George Henry Sprouse. I am missing info on Benjamin and Mary Powell. Could you help? I have marriage licenses and hope that I'm following the right line. Thanks Charlotte

I am looking for any help on this gentleman. He is as far back as I can go in my Chambers line. Thomas Chambers was born ~1731, most probably in PA. He is said to be related to the founders of Chambersburg, PA, but I can not document that. At some time he moved to Orange County. One source says he had 22 children from 2 marriages. Another source lists names of his children, but only lists 19. He married first Rachel Chisholm, and second Mary Gore. Some of his children went to KY, but not all of them. I am descended from the Chambers in Franklin County, KY. I am willing to share any info I may have. A lot of it is posted at: http://members.tripod.com/~pt109/ Thanks, Paul Tracy Chambers [email protected] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
