    1. Re: [VANORTHU-L] Northumberland County, Virginia Research
    2. Hello List, My Northumberland family is CRALLE, descending from (Sea Captain) John CRALLE. My lines include OPIE, MATHEW, KENNER, FOX and BALL from the Northern Neck area. I saw the query on the list about the THOMAS CRALLE. Even though I do have several by that name, the one who wrote about him is correct. There are SO MANY Thomas names in that line that it is very confusing. In my line, brothers Thomas and John, both named a son Thomas. They both married the same woman! One married his brother's widow. She was HANNAH KENNER and was widowed four times (or more?). My CRALLE line moved to Nottoway County and for a generation or two the name is also spelled CRAWLEY in that county, but it is the same line. By the time the name got down to my generation, it was back to CRALLE. The (French) name is written to this day with an accent over the e, and tombstones carry the accent also. Some transcriptions have recorded the name as Cralli, thinking the accent was a sloppy dot over a sloppy i. I don't see the name being carried on with that misspelling. 3. Hello Jane, I've been doing a little research on the OPIEs and KENNERs of Northumberland in connection with a TURNER family. In the will of JOHN TURNER (d.1742) he bequeaths to his son Henry Turner a tract called OPIES QUARTER "which I bought from RODHAM KENNER". Can you tell me the location of "Opie's Quarter" and do you have any information that might help me identify this JOHN TURNER? His wife was FEBBIE, his children were: John Jr., Henry, George, Edward, Elizabeth (m. Hayden), Bridget, Monica, Priscilla, and Ann. Thanks, Pam Congs@aol.com wrote: Hello List, My Northumberland family is CRALLE, descending from (Sea Captain) John CRALLE. 1. Re: [VANORTHU-L] Looking for Thomas Cralle born at 1750 in MD or VA
    2. Michael Gough
    3. Hi Jane, my 4th Grandfather was Kenner Cralley. He move to MasonCo, KY around 1800 from VA or MD. He moved a lot and eventually died in IL or IN. We haven't found his grave yet but his wife Delilah Donovan is reportedly buried in PoseyCo, IN. Kenner said that his Father was Thomas Cralle and was from VA. Given Kenner's birth year of abt 1780, his father would have been born abt 1750. I suspect he may have moved to Maryland since, Kenner was found in Kentucky with Marylanders. My search is currently focusing on Thomas, the son of this Thomas Cralle: "Maryland Probate Records - Calendar of Wills, Vo. 16, 1774-1777", p 91 "Thomas Crawley WW 12 Mar. 1774, WP 4 Mar. 1775; To sons: Thomas and Basil Crawley, all lands equally that I have in Lunenburg Co., Virginia. If either die without issue the whole to the survivor. To son James Crawley: plantations where I now live and all land in St. Jerome or "Hawley's Mansion." If he die without issue to son Basil. To dau. Judith Crawley, negro slaves: James, Rachell, Nan, Harry, George and Nell, provided she does not marry a Roman (Catholic) or turn on. If she does, she's to get only 3 negros. The other 3 negroes to her 3 brothers James, Thomas and Basil Crawley and remainder of my negroes equally. To son James, when 21 years of age shall pay to my daughter, Judith Crawley, 2000 pounds creop tobacco for 7 years. To 2 sons: Thomas and Basil, to pay my daughter, 50 pounds. To 4 children: Thomas, James, Judith and Basil Crawley, reminder of estate equally. Bennet Biscoe exe., he to get &10.50.0 each year until children are of age. Wit. Sam'l. Theobalds, Thomas Loker, Rosamond Egerton." 40. 507 Our Cralles changed the spelling of their name over time as well. My grandmother was Ruby Cralley but her sister was Maude Crawley. My Ggrandfather signed his name Crally or Cralley but the his tombstone says VT Crawley. BTW, the T. stands for Thomas (what a suprise). Do you have any information on a Thomas Cralle who was born around 1750 and had a son Kenner? We have found other Cralle's in MasonCo but we don't know exact relationship to Kenner. There are a number of his descendants looking but this is as close as we've gotten.
