Does any one know anything of these 2 families ? > Thank you, > Jo Clark Dear Jo, Would you by any chance have any information on a PITTMAN family that was in Franklin Parish, Louisiana in the mid-1800's? There is an Arthur PITTMAN who married in 1860 to a Mary WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1834 prob. in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana where her parents moved at some point in time before 1840 and then moved to Franklin Parish, Louisina in or near Liddieville. Her father was William WILLIAMS said to have been born in abt. 1790 in Maryland, parents: ??, and her mother was named Elizabeth ? who was prob. born bet. 1790-1800 and is said to have been born in Ohio. Their daughter, Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1840 in either Catahoula or Franklin Parish, LA, was my great grandmother, maternal, and married my great grandfather, Hudson/H. SLAUGHTER, and were parents of my grandfather, Louis Hector "Hec" SLAUGHTER. After the death of Arthur PITTMAN, Mrs. Mary WILLIAMS (PITTMAN) married 2nd husband, Albert Daniel WALKER, on April 22, 1869. I noticed a BARLOW family line descends from the very unusual name of a man name Fortunadas/Fortunatas you mentioned in your post regarding a Fortunadas PITTMAN. His name is Fortunatus DODSON shown in the small family tree below. With such an unusual name it is possible that your Fortunadas PITTMAN descends from this Fortunatas DODSON. ......................mother: Alice DODSON ............................b: 15 MAR 1733/34 ................................in N. Farnham Parish, ................................Richmond County, Virginia ............................d: 1801 in Woodford Co., VA ............................father: Fortunatus DODSON ................................born: 1713 in North Farnham Parish, ....................................Richmond County, Virginia ................................died: 09 SEP 1737 .........................................in Richmond County, Virginia ................................father: Charles DODSON, Jr. ....................................b: 1680 in Richmond County, Virginia ....................................father: Charles DODSON, Sr. ........................................b: 1649 in Rappahannock, Virginia ........................................d: 06 FEB 1704/05 .............................................in N. Farnham Parish, .............................................Richmond, Virginia You also mentioned the name of HUDSON as a possibility for the William that you are searching for. I have also suspected that it might be possible that Claranda's husband, Hudson/Hutson H. SLAUGHTER, might in some way be related to her WILLIAMS' family as there are numerous WILLIAMS marriages to SLAUGHTERs over the years from VA into NC into AL > MS > Louisiana. There are men named Hudson/Hutson HARRIS and Hudson/Hutson Harris WILLIAMS that, apparently, Hudson/Hutson H. SLAUGHTER. He was born 13 Mar 1844 in Greene/Pickens Co., Alabama where many of the WILLIAMS related to SLAUGHTERs moved when they left North Carolina where they lived in Richmond County for many years. Hudson was the son of Susan CROUCH, born: abt. 1815 in NC, daughter of Sarah and Samuel CROUCH, born: abt. 1785 in NC, and Susan's husband, John M. SLAUGHTER, born: abt. 1795 in NC, son of Mary McDONALD/McDANIEL and husband, (Rev.) Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr., son of Mary Elizabeth BOLTON and Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr. all of Richmond Co., NC. In addition in Bienville Parish, LA in abt. 1890 there is a family of a Green WILLIAMS who had a daughter, Clarissa WILLIAMS, who married Christopher Columbus "Lum" SLAUGHTER, Jr., and I have wondered if they are also related to this group. Anyway, immediately below I am sending you my basic family file for this WILLIAMS group in Franklin Parish, LA and then below that you will find PITTMAN information that connects with the PITTMAN family that you are searching for. There are some PITTMAN - WILLIAMS posts from www.genforum.com on the PITTMAN and WILLIAMS pages and there may also be some information on the connecting EATON lineage that also married into my WILLIAMS' family group with the marriage of Mary and Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS' sister, Margaret WILLIAMS, who married Daniel P. EATON. Looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett > > William and Elizabeth WILLIAMS were the parents of: > > Children of Elizabeth ? and William WILLIAMS: > (1.) 3. Well this is a start.....I guess. I believe William was Hudson's first name. His son was named William Hudson. They also had a son Francis and a son Fortunatus. However my dates don't match. According to what I have William Hudson Jeffries and Frances Ann Pitman married around 1830. She is listed in 1850 Lewis Co., WV Census but by 1860 William Hudson is married to a Rosetta. I don't know what happened to Frances. Where did Frances and Mr. James live when they married? Maybe if in WV, I could look for them at the Archives. I do have copies of 1850 and 1860 Census of Lewis Co., WV. I went to the Archives in Charleston , WV yesterday and spent the day. When I found Fortunatus in 1810 in Northumberland pg.155 I also found William Jefferies pg. 158. So they didn't live too far apart. All toooooooo confusing. Thank you for your time and trust me, I am going to stay on this one. Jo Clark _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Jo, Frances Pittman married 3 times according to my records I have pieced together. First to William Jeffries 11-14-1807, Secondly to Jeduthan James 1816 in Northumberland Co va ( This is how she links to my family tree) and Thirdly to Hiram Marsh 7-21-1831. I know her parents were Fortunatas and Mary. I show 3 children by the marriage to Hiram Marsh. They were named Joseph, Amanda , and John. Hope this helps . Subj: Re: [VAROOTS] That Cousin Stuff Date: 1/29/2002 4:38:04 PM Central Standard Time From: Ms2001@aol.com Reply-to: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com To: VAROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Hello omega84@ev1.net (R&S Patterson), In reference to your comment: è It explains all those è mysterious "5th cousin twice removed" kinds of è things. Actually the 'cousin stuff' is very simple. I had this posted on several websites but I think they have all 'bit the dust' over the years. Of course I can't find the original explaination now so here goes - Abe and Betty are married and have 2 kids - Charlie and Donna - who are of course brother and sister. Charlie marries Ethel and they have George Donna marries Fred and they have Hazel (don't ya love the ABCs here?) Charlie and Ethel are aunt and uncle to George and Hazel - that's the easy part. George and Hazel are first cousins and their spouses will also first cousins (none of the once removed stuff yet). Let's jump down one more generation. George has a son, Igor, and Hazel has a son, Jack. Now here goes the seconds and removes - Jack and Igor are second cousins. George and Jack and first cousins once removed. So are Hazel and Igor The first, second, third etc relationships show the same number of generations down from the common ancestor (good ole Abe and Betty). When the number of generations from the common ancestor are different, the 'removes' kick in. So we have: Abe/Betty - Charlie - George - Igor Abe/Betty - Donna - Hazel - Jack Adding another generation - Abe/Betty - Charlie - George - Igor - Lee Abe/Betty - Donna - Hazel - Jack - Mary which gives us - Common Ancestor - siblings - first cousins - second cousins - third cousins The relationship between a first cousin and a second cousin is a first cousin once removed. The relationship between a first cousin and a third cousin is a first cousin twice removed. The relationship between a second cousin and a third cousin is second cousin once removed. The 'removes' simply mean that the generations are not even from the common ancestor. I hope this helps someone make some sense of all those things great Aunt Betty told you ..... Bev

Johnston and Rachel Spears-- Margaret Johnston/Johnson married Eli Bass of Ashland.. Columbia MO. See will above of Thomas McClanahan See BAYSE/BASS query -- http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysouthernfamily/myff/d0058/g0000050.html Tried to get some information on the ELGIN family -- there's an ELGIN in LB where I live... looks like some information here ties to them: http://www.geocities.com/~elginsite/elginwills.html. Not sure who is the father of Samuel Elgin -- looks like William?? traci wilson-kleekamp
