    3. I do have a list of birthplaces and other notable sites you mentioned. Natually, I'm looking for locations where the Boggess family lived. Talk about looking for the ultimate goal! I would like to be able to show everyone a location or two. The family arrived in the mid-1600's and left for Fairfax County in the 1700's. Births, marriages, etc... are mentioned in St. Stephens Parish Church records and various other records in the courthouse. Spellings are Boggis, Boggus, Baggus, Boggas, etc.... Other surnames we are researching: Auvelin/Auvling, Bennett, Samford. As you know, for the earlier spouses, maiden names were not always used. Thanks again, Gayle

    3. Gayle: They are not indexed, but the name Boggess is one I would remember. There are Burgess families, but don't know any other variation. You cannot get lost down in that part of Va., because every side road you take will end up on the river, either the Coan, Potomac or Rappahannock. It's pretty country and I will try to help you if you know what points of interest you want to know about. Robert E. Lee's birthplace; as well as Geo. Washington's and the little towns each have their court houses and local churches on the main roads, mostly. What other name are you researching? I have Smith, Rock, Lewis, Dameron, Headley, Hall, Beauchamp/Beacham. Of course Clark and Headley being the main ones. 3. Thank you. I was hoping the Society would have a website...... I am planning a Boggess Family Reunion in Fredericksburg in September. The Boggess family was in Northumberland Co in the mid-1600's. I'm looking for someone to guide me to points of interest. I was there last September and visited the St. Stephens Parish Church, courthouse and a few sights along the way. As with so many families the Boggess name has been written in many different translations. If the past Bulletins are indexed, I would appreciate your looking for the surnames. Again, thank you for your prompt reply, Gayle

    3. Lisa, At your closest Library, you should ask your librarian to do a search for this book, or the complete set of books. They were written by Beverley Fleet, a male librarian with the State Library of Virginia, back in the 1930s maybe...and a female also ended up writing some. They realized the value of the printed word and compiled between 8-22? volumes for sevearl counties between them, if my memory serves me well. There are births, some deaths, and other things in them depending on which book you see. If you librarian can find them, she can order them to be "loaned" to you in care of the library. You would only possibly be asked to pay for the postage to return the books to the lending library. Interlibrary loan is the cheapest way to go, if you dont live near a good State library or a good genealogical library that has lots from all states. Many college libraies also have copies of many books, as these are history. Good luck. I've been thinking about buying them for certain articles I've seen and to research when I stop work - but no one else in our family seems interested, so it would be for my and Betsy's entertainment. Anyway, sent these boards, you might be interested in, there are several people who have helped me with info and I've been able to help some also. Just right click on them and add to your address book and they should come up for you. Thiey have all been clean as far as virus in the five years I've been on them. More later - Oh, saw Callie and Catherine H under the Butler's. Probably the articled you told me about, also one on Clarence. CU Henry.

    3. I have some Rice's from Reedville VA (Northumberland Co.) in the Hughes' line I'm researching. I don't have much history, except to say my father's sister married Emory Carl Rice. Where the Rice line was prior to that, I'm not sure. Anything on the early Hughes' line from the same area would be greatly appreciated. I have been researching records for Northumberland Co. and Richmond Co. VA from the 1600's through the mid 1700's. I have seen references to the Rice surname when researching the Churchill surname. I do not know if this is your line or not. In Northumberland County Order Book, 1666-1678, there are references to a Dominick Rice. He apparently was a merchant because he had a number of law suits against individuals who were indebted to him. There was also a reference to a Richard Rice. Since, I was not researching this name I did not look for other information on him. There are several books at the Dallas, Texas library that have records from this timeframe. 2. In answer to Charlene, have no info on the Hales, but hope you may have info on your Withers in your Dad's lines - were they in Northumberland, in Md, or NC & SC. Are they the relatives of the Durants, original land grantees in Northumberland - William on the Rappahannock, and George who married Ann Marwood in Wicomico Ch and lived on Nominee Bay. Both were leaders of dissenting settlers, Wm, in MD and George in Old Albemarle. Wm's wife said to be Alice Pell. If you or any who research early (1600s) Northumberland families has any info on the Withers, any of the Durants or of their relatives, neighbors & friends in those early days, would appreciate hearing , hoping to compare & share mutual interest and info. Thanks, Ansearch. Streborjc3@aol.com

Can you - or anyone interested in 1600's Northumberland Co history and settlers - give any early info on any ot those three names? Thanks . Ansearch, Streborjc3@aol.com
