    1. Re: [VANORTHU-L] James R. Pursell
    2. Mary, I am also trying to find more on James Pursell and Mary Pursell, who is found living near James. My GGrandfather was Thomas T. Pursell (Purcell), who lived with or next to William H. Pursell in Village, Northumberland County. They all were in the 1860 census for this county and were all born in Westmoreland County. I have surmised, but have no proof, that they were all brothers. William H. Purcell's father was William Pede Pursell, according to some records found in Heathesville Historic Society and according to the book Purcells of Virginia and Allied families. According to my calculations William Pede Pursell should be one generation prior to their births. There possibly was another William Pursell between William Pede and these brothers. James is also found in the 1880 census living in the Lottsburg District with another wife, Virginia. This is probably Virginia S. Bundick Pursell. I found both of their graves in the Henderson United Methodist Church graveyard in Hyacinth, Northumberland County. "James R. Purcell, Died Nov. 11, 1903, age 69" and "Virginia S., Wife of James R. Purcell, Died April 26, 1921,77 yrs." I have met and have obtained a lot of info on James and his descendants, and I have not found the relationship of the persons of whom you asked, but I am going to investigate and will get back to you. Best of luck in all of your endeavors, William Thomas Purcell, Jr.

    1. [VANORTHU-L] John William THRIFT-Richmond County, Virginia
    2. Susan Whittington
    3. Here's an interesting twist to my THRIFT research. John THRIFT born about 1751 in St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland County, VA and married Mary UNKNOWN about 1782 in Farnham Parish, Richmond County, VA. They had a son, John THRIFT born 1783. Could Mary's last name have been BEAUCHAMP? There is a story passed down in the family from Mabel THRIFT, daughter of Philip Mayo THRIFT, that insists that Samuel B THRIFT's middle name was BEAUCHAMP and that it was Acadian--that one of the ancestor THRIFT married an Acadian woman named BEAUCHAMP. We know that John THRIFT, Jr. married Sarah WHITE so it could have been the John THRIFT before him who married Mary UNKNOWN. The Acadian dispersion was in the 1750's so the timing is right. If this rings a bell with anyone or you have some idea as to where I should go with this information, please let me know. Thanks, Sue
